Tracker has become one of the most popular shows on CBS despite being in only its second season. Based on Jeffery Deaver’s novel The Never Game, the action drama follows the lone-wolf survivalist Colter Shaw, who tracks missing people for rewards.

With a stellar cast including Justin Hartley, Abby McEnany, and Jensen Ackles, the series has consistently garnered good ratings since its premiere in February 2024. Following the positive response, the show was quickly renewed for a second season, which premiered in October 2024.

After airing eight gripping episodes, Season 2 went on a mid-season break at the beginning of December 2024. However, unlike most CBS shows, the show will not return with new episodes in January 2025. Tracker Season 2 delay is attributed to CBS’ decision to bring back its Sunday programming shows in February 2025.

Tracker Season 2 delay: Why isn't the show returning in January 2025?

Tracker Season 2 aired its 8th episode on December 1, 2024. CBS has not released any new episode of the show since then, as the series is on a midseason break. While audiences have to endure a long wait to watch new episodes of the series, this winter break is fairly common for network TV shows.

It gives the cast and crew time to rest and enjoy the holidays with their families. However, while announcing the 2025 broadcast roster, CBS revealed Tracker season 2 will return with its 9th episode on February 16, 2025.

On the other hand, other hit shows like NCIS, NCIS: Origins, FBI, FBI: International, and Fire Country are returning after the mid-season break by the end of January 2025. This makes fans wonder why the release of Tracker season 2 is being delayed.

Well, CBS has confirmed that all the shows that are part of its Sunday programming will not be coming back in January, and Tracker is not an exception. January is packed with events like NFL championship games and awards shows, so airing new episodes during this time could mean lower ratings for scripted shows.

By the time the Sunday programs begin airing in February, events like the AFC Championship Game and the Super Bowl games would have already concluded. Hence, CBS will resume its Sunday programming on February 16, 2025. The programming also includes the crime drama The Equalizer and the new series Watson.

Once Tracker returns on the screens, fans will be in for a treat as the second season is going to comprise 22 episodes, contrary to the first season, which had only 13. As the new season has aired eight episodes so far, viewers will get to watch fresh episodes for 14 more weeks beginning on February 16, 2025.

What to expect from Tracker Season 2 after the mid-season break?

The upcoming episodes will follow up on the events of the mid-season finale, which left fans wondering if Gina Pickett is still alive. Colter Shaw’s search for Gina will heat up as he gets closer to finding out what happened to her. The case involves mysterious figures and places, the ‘Teacher’ and ‘The Farm.’

Colter’s partnership with the retired cop Keaton will likely play a big role in uncovering the truth. Meanwhile, the survivalist’s family story would also take center stage. Jensen Ackles is confirmed to return as Colter’s brother, Russell, which means the two could work on solving the mystery of their father’s death.

Colter’s sister, Dory, might also make an appearance in the next episode and could help reveal long-hidden family secrets. At the same time, Colter will keep solving his usual cases, which come with new dangers and surprises.

The show will return on CBS on February 16, 2025, at 8 PM ET.
