Lara Croft's adventure may have ended in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft season 1, but the finale hints at a potential season 2. The animated series debuted on Netflix this month and concluded with eight episodes.

Season 1 follows the iconic archaeologist Lara from the acclaimed video game reboot trilogy (2013-2018) as she continues her quest for valuable artifacts. The titular character is voiced by Marvel star Hayley Atwell, known for playing Peggy Carter in the superhero universe. Her voice adds life to the character and makes her journey even more intriguing.

This time, Lara didn't face off against the mercenaries but Charles Devereaux as the leading foe. The series begins with Lara getting into action soon after a mysterious jade artifact gets stolen from the Croft Manor. By the end of season 1, Lara resolves the case of Charles Devereaux, who turned into a giant monster with the help of the Peril Stones while ensuring order in the world.

Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Season 1 came out on Netflix on October 10, 2024, and brought back the fan-favorite Lara Croft from the popular video game series. Netflix hasn't greenlit the animated show for another season, but a 2023 report from The Hollywood Reporter stated that the series has a two-season order.

Additionally, the finale of Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Season 1 ended with a major cliffhanger about the archaeologist's best friend and hinted at another adventure. Below are the reasons why there should be a season 2:

1) Unresolved mystery of Sam Nishimura

One of the biggest reasons fans should get another season is to explore Sam's whereabouts. As seen in the last episode titled A Journey of a Thousand Miles, everyone's enjoying Jonah and Abby's marriage except for Sam Nishimura.

While Lara was enjoying the traditional Māori wedding, Sam gave her a call and didn't explain what happened to her. Lara gets worried and tells the groom and bride about the situation. Soon after Lara reached Sam's apartment, she witnessed her broken phone, a board explaining deep research into the black market, and a shoe.

The finale didn't reveal what happened to Sam or if something took her away. This leaves room for another season where Lara's quest to find Sam could be explored. Lara takes out a poster from the research board and takes off.

2) Lara's character development and new journey

Lara began as a skilled tomb raider constantly thrust into collecting precious artifacts and taking on new challenges. In the video games, Lara was criticized for being selfish and participating in stealing.

However, fans saw her moral growth in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Season 1. She stepped out of her father's shadow and took on a responsible role. Lara donated her father's artifacts as she learned the cultural values of these items. However, she kept a dinosaur tooth, hinting that the adventurous spirit was still alive.

3) Potential for a new villain

Charles Devereaux is the main villain for the latest Netflix animated series, who finally met his end at the hand of Lara Croft. Devereaux was behind the Peril Stones and even got his hand on it. However, Lara didn't let him expand his reign of terror and defeated him in the finale with the help of Jonah.

Now that Charles Devereaux isn't a big threat, the series has a chance to feature another powerful enemy, possibly The Light, who was behind the elimination of Devereaux's father. The first season had the villain and The Light on bad blood, and if there's another season, it could show Lara facing off against The Light.

4) Jonah and Abby's future after his marriage

Jonah and Abby did get a happy ending in Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft Season 1, but Jonah's future adventures with Lara might distance the couple. Jonah has been a loyal friend to Lara and always wants to help her.

However, he's married now and has to build a strong relationship with his wife. But if Jonah continues his adventures, will he be able to enjoy a happy marriage? This can be deeply explored in a potential second season.

If Netflix greenlights the animated series for another season, Hayley Atwell is the most obvious cast member to make her way back. Other cast members include Earl Baylon as Jonah Maiava, Allen Maldonado as Zip, Zoe Boyle as Camilla Roth, and even Richard Armitage as Charles Devereaux, whom Lara defeated at the end.
