Reacher Season 2, which premiered December 15, 2023 saw the return of the fan favorite Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchon). However, fans were disappointed to find out that another favorite character of theirs, Roscoe Conkin (Willa Fitzgerald) was not featured in this season.
The simple reason behind Roscoe’s absence in Reacher Season 2 is that the series follows the Lee Child's books very closely and Roscoe’s character is not featured in any of the books after Killing Floor, on which the first season was based.
The second season of Reacher is based on the book titled Bad Luck and Trouble, which does not include the character of Roscoe and neither does the future books of the series, which are to be adapted in later seasons.
Besides Roscoe’s character not featuring in the books, another reason that justifies her absence in the second is Reacher’s character. Since he is an established drifter who consciously keeps himself from making deep and lasting connections, it is only natural that after moving out of Margrave, Roscoe’s hometown, Reacher will not be in touch with her.
Let us now explore Roscoe’s character in detail and what happened to her in the previous season.

Who is Roscoe Conkin in Reacher?
Roscoe Conkin’s character was first introduced in the very first episode of Reacher Season 1, titled, Welcome to Margrave. Conkin was a police officer at the Margrave Police Department and she worked with Reacher to solve the crimes in her hometown.
While working together, the two develop feelings for each other. However, when Reacher’s investigations ended at Margrave and his time came to leave the town, they realized their relationship will not work since Reacher was a self proclaimed drifter and Roscoe wanted to stay back at her hometown to make it better.
The two however parted in amicable ways and Roscoe made Reacher promise her that he would give her a call if he ever comes near Margrave again. The ending of the first season saw Roscoe giving Reacher her number, writing it at the back of a candy bar.
Will Roscoe ever return in Reacher?
Since there is a very straightforward explanation of Roscoe not appearing in season 2 because of her absence from the books that Reacher is based on, it is difficult to say with certainty whether or not she will return to the series.
One thing to note here is that Oscar Finlay, another fan favorite character did return in season 2, episode 4, despite not featuring in the book. Therefore, if a creative reason arises, there are chances that Roscoe’s character can come back.
However, Willa Fitzgerald always knew that her character was there to stay for one season only. In an interview with Digital Spy, she mentioned,
“Oftentimes, you think you're going to get another season, and you don't get another season, and you're abruptly cut off. Or you think you're going to keep doing it, and then something else intervenes. So it's nice to have the agency to know that that is a complete, finished product. And it was also great to be able to start off the whole Reacher world."
On the other hand, Alan Ritchson, who plays the titular character of Jack Reacher in the show is quite open to the idea of bringing Roscoe back. In an interview with Slash Film, when he was asked about the same, Ritchson said,
“I would, for sure. I would be a huge fan of that. I think we should. I think we should at some point. They were just too good. We're building a world here, and although this is an anthology, to be able to remind the audience that this is a real journey that he's taken and there are some people that are still there, I think it could be a lot of fun. Yeah, I hope we can do that at some point.”
However, despite Ritchson’s openness in bringing back Willa Fitzgerald’s Roscoe in upcoming Reacher seasons, the chances seem very slim since she does not appear in any other book of the series. The show remains quite honest to the source material and that is the biggest stumbling block in terms of Roscoe’s return.
Nonetheless, since Roscoe was a supporting character in the book who was turned into a main character in the show and became a fan favorite, a cameo is more likely to happen in place of a full fledged return, if at all the character was to reappear.
With Reacher Season 3 premiere coming soon and the show being renewed for a fourth season, it remains to be seen if Roscoe indeed would make a comeback or not.
Recaher can be streamed on Prime Video.
