Netflix has reportedly removed an Arcane Season 2 poster ahead of the franchise's release of the last batch of episodes. Riot Games and studio Fortiche's joint venture Arcane has allegedly used an AI-generated poster, as spotted by one of the fans on Twitter.

The show has been a huge success owing to its visual depiction of a combined form of digital and hand-drawn artwork. So, the appearance of an out-of-form and anatomically incorrect hand of the character Vi in one of the scenes has raised a lot of controversies.

As per reports, Arcane follows a strict rule of not using artificial intelligence in their work. Even Riot Games brand lead Alex Shahmiri has confirmed the same by writing on Twitter that it is disrespectful to all the artists who put in so much effort every day. According to his statement, it was a legitimate mistake and immediately afterward, the poster was removed.

Why has Netflix removed an Arcane Season 2 poster?

Recently, one Twitter user and Arcane fan has spotted the use of AI while watching the series. The controversy came to the limelight ahead of Season 2's final episodes' release.

Acknowledging the mistake, brand lead Alex Shamiri has replied on Twitter saying:

"appreciate you bringing this to our attention. we have a strict stance of no ai for anything relating to arcane cause it's disrespectful to the incredible artists who worked on the show. this image was a mistake and has since been removed. ty again for calling it out."

The appearance of the character Vi's hand in a weird form has helped to spot the mistake. So, Netflix has pulled off the Arcane Season 2 poster following the social media turmoil.

Does the non-AI policy apply to other Riot Games products?

Another user on Twitter raised questions on Arcane's exclusive non-AI policy and asked whether it applies to the other products of Riot Games:

"okay... but everything *else* too? Valorant, League of Legends, Legends of Runeterra? Any other running/in-development like books, comics, promotional art, concept art? Riot Games is a beacon for the creatives, despite its history. Don't make us remember the good days again."

Alex has replied to the same saying:

"i can only speak to what i work on. from a purely personal level, i'm not a fan of ai because what makes art so special is the human connection and feeling. be it through art, music, or any creative medium - it's something i never want to see replaced by ai."

The use of AI images makes work easier and faster. It is even cheaper than hiring trained professionals. However, a number of cultural and aesthetic issues surrounding its role in artwork need to be addressed.

Imperfections arising from AI's application can be easily spotted and also puts artistic integrity in question. Similarly, Netflix's error in using a show poster (modified by generative AI) has recently caused a lot of resentment among fans.

However, after brand leads Shamiri's quick response to the situation has curbed unrest to some extent. Especially ahead of Season 2, he has reportedly confirmed that AI was not a part of the show in any way.
