KAOS is the title given to Netflix's brand-new take on Greek mythology. But the show has now been canceled after just one month since its premiere date of August 29. Though the series gained a huge fan following, that factor was just not enough for Netflix to continue running it.
This is not the first time Netflix has canceled shows. Variety has confirmed that KAOS won't return for a second season, following a hint dropped by one of the series' lead actors.

KAOS also received positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and built up a fan base among viewers. However, the 14.9 million plus views on Netflix were not enough for the streaming giant to renew it for a second season.
Aurora Perrineau shares her feelings after Netflix canceled KAOS
KAOS is one of the most popular productions, topping the charts for several weeks in a row in different countries. The show took a creative take on ancient Greek mythology in contemporary times, which seemed very relevant.
At times, though, creator Charlie Covell would have wished that perhaps more people could have seen the show to increase the chances of a second and third season, but unfortunately, the ratings seemed to have other things to say about that.
The show centered around Jeff Goldblum as an insecure, nervous Zeus who finds himself at the center of a battle between gods and humans, led by Prometheus, Eurydice, Ariadne, and Caeneus among the human body. It was such an incredible cast that included Janet McTeer, Cliff Curtis, David Thewlis, and Aurora Perrineau, but it was not renewed for its second season, much to the disappointment of viewers.
Perrineau broke the news of KAOS's cancellation in one of her Instagram posts. The post has been attached above for our readers to take a look.
She explains how all the cast put in their best efforts to make the show a success, and to some extent, it did. She writes;
“Everyone was brilliant and uniquely themselves. Every performance surprised and excited me.” she added “ I can’t believe I got to do this with all of you. We made something weird, dark, hilarious, deranged, and absolutely tragic- something entirely human.”
Why has Netflix canceled KAOS?
KAOS was only on Netflix for six weeks, and fans were geared for its second season. Even with such little time, the show still managed to rack up 14.9 million views. But even though it had a big Hollywood star, it was not enough for Netflix to renew the show for a second season.
In 2022, Peter Friedlander, head of US and Canadian scripted series at Netflix, spoke to Variety about why popular shows are canceled even after being in the top 10 for weeks. He said;
"I think the Top 10 is a useful tool for people to find shows, discover shows, talk about shows and also helps you for viewing. The Top 10 really serves in that way, and I think that’s something that speaks to the popularity in that moment, and I think that’s what it’s really about in that moment. And then when we have to make our decisions."
According to Friedlander, the future of a show is defined by how long Netflix thinks it will last, not how it performed when it first came out.
