Back in 2022, when Mo premiered on Netflix, it had achieved the rare feat of being a show about the struggles of a Palestinian refugee family in America trying to make a home out of that land without being preachy or full of propaganda.

The show had struck a chord with immigrants all over the world and as Mo Amer said himself to Tudum,

“I’m thankful to continue to tell a universal story of struggle that relates to so many refugees and millions of underrepresented humans trying to be seen around the globe.”

However, despite gaining extremely positive responses from critics and viewers alike, the show concluded its run with its second season which premiered on Netflix on January 30, 2025.

While this has left the fans disappointed, the decision came from Amer himself since he told his own story through the show and according to him, he had said everything he wanted to, within these two seasons.

As he told Tudum, with the second season he wanted to

“bring the people who loved and rooted for Mo Najjar along for the ride as we close this chapter of his story.”

Let us now explore in detail why the Netflix show ended only after two seasons and if there is any possibility of the show coming back for a third season.

Amer felt he had told his story in two seasons

As previously mentioned, the show is based on the personal experiences of Amer, when he felt he had said everything he had to, the show came to a natural conclusion. About ending the show only after two seasons, Amer told Tudum,

“I feel like Season 2 fully fulfills what I wanted to do and accomplish.”

He, however, had a very different opinion about season 1, as he said,

“Season 1 was like riding a bike, you don’t land a few tricks. In Season 1, I was just cruising. It felt so easy.”

This shows how he as a creator also evolved and that contributed a lot to concluding after season 2. Despite a bunch of new characters and Palestine itself being introduced in Season 2, Amer felt it was best to finish telling his story simply because it felt enough.

Amer is not completely averse to Mo Season 3

One good news for the fans is that despite ending the show after 2 seasons and also giving valid reasons behind its conclusion, Amer is not completely opposed to the idea of getting back with a third season.

As told by him in an interview with Vulture, he is

“open to potentially doing a third season.”

However, until nothing is official it is better to not get the expectations high because Amer has been emotionally exhausted weaving the first two seasons given the kind of personal space it comes from.

Amer also acknowledged that while it felt right to end the show where they did, there are always more stories to tell. Given the theme of the show and the way Amer and Ramy Youssef have developed it, they can always cook up something great and the fans will be happy to see Amer back.

Mo can be streamed on Netflix.
