Younger was a respected comedy show on TV Land that originally aired from 2015 to 2021. Younger featured Sutton Foster who played the protagonist Liz Miller, a single mother in her forties who discovers to her dismay that the modern workplace is a bit apathetic to women employees in their middle age. Therefore, to up her chances of landing a job, Liz Miller faked her age and passed her off as someone in her twenties on the TV Land show.

Miller's desperate search for a job landed her at one of the publishing firms in New York known as Empirical Press. Apart from Sutton Foster, Miriam Shor was a prominent member of the cast, playing the role of Diana Trout and the boss of Foster's Miller. Although the show was the longest-running one on TV Land, it eventually shifted to Paramount+ and Hulu. Another disappointment that fans had with the final season of Younger was the absence of Miriam Shor from much of the action.

According to creator Darren Star, the final season was ravaged by the onset and the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and several cast reshufflings. This is the reason why Shor couldn't participate in the show. Moreover, the seventh season had been planned to be the last iteration and therefore several things about the show left audiences asking for more.

Miriam Shor's absence was felt in the final season of Younger?

Miriam Shor as Diane Trout was a familiar face on the TV Land show as the boss of Liz Miller. She had been associated with the show ever since the beginning of 2015. This is the reason why fans of the TV Land show were disappointed by her absence in the final season of the show. The seventh season confined her appearance to just a brief Zoom call.

The reason that was put forward by the narrative was that the character of Diane Trout had married her fiance Enzo Deluca during season six and therefore was living it up during her extended honeymoon to Italy. In real life, Shor was unable to be a part of the show owing to post-pandemic precautions and other complications. This was confirmed by Darren Star as he revealed to TVLine back in March 2021:

"Due to scheduling and COVID related matters, Miriam Shor and Charles Michael Davis were unable to be season seven cast regulars. However, they will always be a much loved and integral part of the ‘Younger’ family and have added so much heart and soul to the series.”

Will Younger ever return to television?

It has been more than three years since the finale of season seven aired. Although it was never officially announced, a potential spin-off for Younger was speculated to be in the works, revolving around Duff's character, Kelsey Peters.

Details about the prospective spin-off were never made known, including which network platform the program would be affiliated with. However, both the audience and many of the cast members were optimistic that this spin-off would be a success.

Darren Star mentioned to Deadline back in 2021:

"I don’t know about rebooting the entire series, but could we come back for a movie at some point, that would be a lot of fun, down the line, to think about."

Younger is available to stream exclusively on Netflix.
