With Love, Meghan is Netflix's new lifestyle series, where the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, invites her celebrity friends to cook together and enjoy a lavish lunch at her Californian estate.
The trailer for this eight-part series came only days after Markle resurfaced on Instagram to announce her series on Netflix, where she can be seen basking in the summer sun with celebrities like Mindy Kaling and her Suits co-star Abigail Spencer.
Huge spreads of fresh food, fruits, and juices made from fresh produce from her garden are laid on a neatly laid and decorated massive dining table. These are just the typical frames you can expect in With Love, Meghan.
However, some influencers, royal experts, and even some viewers don't seem to be enjoying this lavish aesthetic put on by the Duchess, and her series is facing backlash for how unattainable and out of tune it is with the present conditions of the Americans.
More on why With Love, Meghan is facing major backlash in our story.
Meghan Markle faces backlash for her lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan
Meghan McCain, the host of the Citizen McCain podcast, took to X to backlash against Meghan Markle in her new series, whose trailer she earlier shared on her Instagram account.
With all the things happening in America, with the terror attacks and waging war, Markle flaunting her lavish lifestyle while inviting 'Americans' to tune in to her show for tips and tricks they can re-create for themselves did not sit right with McCain. She thinks Markle's venture is extremely insensitive and 'tone-deaf' to the moment.
She took to X to express her thoughts on the show,
''There have been 2 terror attacks in 2 days, major wars raging and Americans can’t pay for groceries. We are a country in rage, uncertainty and intensity right now.''
She added:
''This concept is ill advised. I would have told her to do a show helping bring fresh food to food deserts in low income neighborhoods. Do something to help people instead of your ego. This is why the world doesn’t like you, nothing else. Just completely and utterly tone deaf to the moment.''
Markle's With Love, Meghan criticized for its 'Instagram-perfect' aesthetics
After watching the trailer, nobody can deny the fact that the lifestyle Markle depicts and claims to 'share' with the Americans is a dream to many and something that only the Duchess can sustain and afford.
In an interview with The Mirror, royal historian and expert Dr. Tessa Dunlop discusses how Markle's new ventures could bring problems for her and make her a laughing stock because the Instagram-ready aesthetics she showcases in With Love, Meghan are 'out of reach' for most of the people.
''...a reality series in which one of the richest women in the world is pretending she can teach us 'little tips and tricks'. Demonstrating how 'we can incorporate these practises' into our domestic lives, as she meanders through her sun-dappled kitchen garden, retro basket in hand, before attending those designer bee hives, dripping with honey. It's so out-of-reach for the vast majority, it is laughable."
Earlier, Markle created another Instagram account for her new business venture, under American Riviera Orchard, a lifestyle brand that claims to sell jams, spreads, and other kitchenware products. While the products are not yet available to the public, many Instagram influencers and Markle celebrity friends (who also make an appearance on With Love, Meghan) were seen promoting her products.
The series could also be used to introduce her brand to the general public, which could be terrible for her business if it continues to receive such negative feedback from influencers and audiences.
With Love, Meghan debuts on Netflix on January 15, 2025.
