CBS's Matlock reboot has already been renewed for Season 2, considering its positive critical reception and a high score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The reboot is from the original Matlock TV series, featuring Andy Griffith in the titular role. The reboot did a gender flip and stars Kathy Bates as Madeline "Matty" Matlock.
The show follows Madeline "Matty" Matlock as she joins the law firm Jacobson Moore as a lawyer. But she is pretending to work there to uncover secrets about her daughter's death, who died in a car accident, which she suspects has connections to the law firm. She is lying to her boss, Olympia, and her colleagues to uncover the truth about her daughter's accident.
While the Matlock reboot airs weekly episodes every Thursday, the show aired its mid-season finale (Episode 8) on December 12, 2024. Fans will not have new episodes for a couple of weeks as the show is on a Holiday hiatus and will return in 2025.

When will the Matlock reboot return with new episodes?
The reboot aired its Episode 8 on December 12, 2024, and there have been no new episodes since. This is because the CBS shows, like many other series, have gone on an extended break for the holidays.
Episode 8 was the show's mid-season finale, and the Matlock reboot will return with new episodes (Episode 9) on January 30, 2025.
It is a good time to catch the show's previous episodes because CBS is currently showing the re-runs of the series till its return in 2025.
Moreover, CBS decided to air Holiday special episodes of Ghosts on December 26, 2024, during the Matlock time slot.
During the Matlock time block, CBS aired "The Christmas Spirit, Part One" and "The Christmas Spirit, Part Two," from Ghosts Season 2, which was followed by "A Very Arondekar Christmas, Part One," and "A Very Arondekar Christmas, Part Two," from Ghosts Season 4.
Fans can catch the new episodes of the Matlock reboot in 2025.
What can you expect from the Matlock reboot Episode 9? Exploring the mid-season finale cliffhanger
It was hard enough that the show would be going on an extended break, but the creators chose to leave the fans hanging with a mid-season finale cliffhanger at the end of Episode 8 involving Julian and Olympia's relationship.
After much odds since Episode 1, the couple was finally moving forward as Julian tried his best to support Olympia. Julian continued to show that he had changed, which prompted Olympia to take him back, and the two officially got together in Episode 6.
But things have again taken a bad turn for the couple as Julian confesses that he had an affair with another woman, and the episode ends with his confession. Olympia demands to know who he slept with, but fans will have to wait a couple of weeks to learn who was the woman, which will be revealed in Episode 9.
Julian's confession also hinders Madeline's plan, as her revenge is getting compromised in the process. Her boss, Olympia, has leaned on her throughout Episode 8, and if she continues to do so in the forthcoming episodes, it will be difficult for her to lie to her and her colleagues.
