In Mayor of Kingstown Season 3, Episode 3, Barbarians at the Gate, Iris gets booked by the Kingstown police. The police officer wants her fingerprints for the process, but Iris desperately tries to avoid it.
Iris didn't want to give her fingerprints in Mayor of Kingston Season 3 because it would have immediately revealed her criminal history. She feared that the revelation would jeopardize her relationship with Mike, as he put his trust in her.
However, Iris couldn't hide her criminal history for long as Ian Ferguson (Hugh Dillon) eventually discovers Iris's past. Despite that, Ian asked Iris to trust him and provide the fingerprints. Soon after the fingerprints are scanned, a bombshell revelation about Iris is made.
Interestingly, the Mayor of Kingstown Season 3 episode didn't immediately reveal it to the audience. Later in the episode, Iris meets Mike and confesses about her connection with Konstantin, the Russian mob leader.
What did Iris reveal about Konstantin in Mayor of Kingstown?
In the same episode of season 3, Iris decides to open up about Konstantin and how she's linked to him. She revealed knowing the Russian mob leader and that he owed her a debt. This goes back to New York when Iris was dating a judge and she managed to get the mob-related murder case thrown out.
In simple words, Iris helped Konstantin easily get away from a murder case that would have caused him trouble. However, her confession to Mike highlighted Iris's loyalty to Mike and again pushed her into a dangerous situation in Kingstown.
How did Iris die in Mayor of Kingstown?
Iris's death is undeniably one of the saddest parts of Mayor of Kingstown Season 3. Her death occurs in the finale of the third season after an intense confrontation. In an attempt to seek escape from the chaos and the criminal world, Iris goes back to drugs.
Her final moments come when she's traveling and takes the drug. Little did Iris know that it would lead to an overdose and cause her death. Initially, it looked like a suicide, but in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Dillon clarified it as an overdose. He said:
"She didn’t take her life; it was an accidental overdose. You know, that’s part of the authenticity of the show..."
Dillon who also plays Ian in the series explained that the creators aimed to portray real struggles. They wanted the audience to explore the raw and painful side of life, through the characters.
