Acclaimed actor Ian Somerhalder, best known for his role as Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries, played a central figure in Lost as Boone Carlyle, among the other survivors on the puzzling island. Before he met the tragic plane crash along with his stepsister, Shannon (played by Maggie Grace), Boone worked as a lifeguard in his teenage years.

Boone and Shannon were among the 324 passengers on Oceanic Flight 815. However, little did travelers know that their life was going to turn upside down in a few minutes. The plane encountered turbulence and broke into two pieces, leaving only 71 human passengers and a dog alive.

After the disaster, Boone, Shannon, Jack, and the remaining survivors found themselves scattered on a mysterious island, unaware of the upcoming storm in their lives. With each passing day, you witness them trying to find a way out and failing.

Boone's journey comes to an end when he and John Locke discover a plane perched on a cliffside and decide to explore it, hoping it would offer a way out of the island. When Boone climbs up to the plane alone, it collapses, leaving him with fatal injuries.

John had good relations with Boone and liked his bravery and determination. He tried to save him but failed. Boone Carlyle's death in Lost marked the beginning of several unexpected clashes among the main characters.

Boone's fate in Lost proved that the show was majorly crafted to showcase the deadly experience of the plane crash survivors and their encounters with unusual people. Boone was the first survivor to die, despite his efforts to become a good leader for his stepsister and other group mates.

Following the incident, Locke had to experience immense trouble as Jack kept blaming him for the loss they endured. They believed that if Locke hadn't kept their mission a secret, Boone would have lived for a longer time.

However, Ian Somerhalder continued to appear on screen after his death through flashback scenes that explored Boone's past. The remaining survivors who wished Boone was alive, faced constant danger, knowing anyone could die the next second.

Lost premiered on ABC in 2004 and ran for six triumphant seasons till 2010. Throughout the years, the TV series earned various accolades including Primetime Emmys, Golden Globe, and many other remarkable achievements.

In 2005, Ian Somerhalder talked about his experience while filming Lost in an interview with US Weekly, calling it "the greatest experience."
