Why isn't Harrison Ford presenting at the Oscars 2025? Explained

Academy Award nominee Harrison Ford will not be presenting at the 97th Academy Awards. According to Entertainment Weekly, the 82-year-old actor has been diagnosed with Shingles.

The news outlet reached out to a representative of Ford who stated that the Indiana Jones actor is resting and doing okay.

Previously, Ford attended the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards where he was part of a quirky opening act skit with Jessica Williams. Jessica and Harrison were seated next to each other when she started the 'I'm an actor' speech. She began:

"Los Angeles is known as the city of dreams and sure enough, all of my dreams have come true"

When Ford sat right behind her, he took a bite of his chips, the audience and Williams laughed at the scene. She said:

"I told him to turn away! Don't look"

Harrison Ford diagnosed with Shingles before Oscars 2025

The Star Wars franchise actor reportedly received the shingles diagnosis report on Friday and informed the Academy on Saturday morning, a day before the Oscars. Ford was expected to walk the red carpet of the Oscars and even present an award for the night. Unfortunately, the star would no longer be a part of the Oscars this year. There are no official reports regarding who would fill in for Ford as a presenter.

A report by Cleveland Clinic describes shingles as:

"Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which causes chickenpox. There are treatments for shingles symptoms, but there is no cure. There is a vaccine against shingles."

The report also mentioned:

"Shingles can't spread shingles to another person, but they can spread chickenpox. The varicella-zoster virus is spread through direct skin to skin contact with fluid that oozes from the blisters."

Previously, on Wednesday, Harrison Ford was declared to present at the Oscars 2025 along with Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez, Joe Alwyn, Rachel Zegler, and Cillian Murphy among others. Other artists expected to present at the Oscars 2025 include Elle Fanning, Penelope Cruz, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Robert Downey Jr., Andrew Garfield, Bowen Yang, Emma Stone, June Squibb, Gal Gadot, Alba Rohrwacher and Dave Bautista. Parks and Recreation actor Nick Offerman is set to be the official announcer of the Oscars 2025.

Several artists will deliver spectacular performances at the Oscars 2025. The list includes Doja Cat, Cynthia Erivo, Blackpink's Lisa, Ariana Grande, Queen Latifah, RAYE, and a special performance by the Los Angeles Master Chorale.

Oscars 2025 will be held at the Dolby Theatre at the Ovation Hollywood. The main event is set to air on March 3, 2025, from 7 PM ET on ABC. The official Oscars 2025 red carpet event will begin at 6:30 PM ET. One can also stream the live event on Hulu. Legendary television host Conan O'Brien is set to be the official host for the night.
