In The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Galadriel talks to Theo about her husband in season 1, episode 7, titled “The Eye.” She says she lost her husband.

Galadriel doesn't give many details, but she tells Theo that she married Celeborn many centuries ago. However, she doesn't directly say, "Celeborn is dead." Instead, she shares her belief about what happened: her husband went to fight Morgoth in the Elves' war and never came back.

Celeborn is the Lord of Lothlórien. He got that title because he won Galadriel's heart and married her in the First Age. We're already familiar with him from other sources, like Peter Jackson's movie trilogy. There, he was portrayed by Marton Csokas and often appeared alongside Cate Blanchett's Galadriel. As rulers of Lothlórien, they helped the Fellowship of the Ring fight against Sauron in the Third Age.

Will Celeborn appear in the second season of

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power?

Since The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power premiered on Prime Video, people have been curious about what happened to Celeborn, Galadriel's Noldorin elf husband. His absence isn't a surprise twist in the story. According to showrunners J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay, Celeborn will be back.

In The Lord of the Rings lore, Celeborn is alive and well. He and Galadriel have a daughter named Celebrian, who Elrond marries. Celebrian then gives birth to Arwen Undomiel, who becomes Aragorn's wife.

We can expect Celeborn to make his appearance very soon in the show. Season 2 is set to bring a huge and exciting event from The Rings of Power history: the siege of Eregion. As we know from Tolkien's stories, Celeborn was right there and helped defend the city of the elven smiths against Sauron's armies.

If Celeborn is alive, then why isn’t Galadriel searching for him?

We don't really know if Galadriel looked for Celeborn in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power or not. Her talk with Theo about it is pretty short and doesn't give us many details. It's possible she searched for a long time, but couldn't find him and then decided to focus on getting revenge for Finrod instead.

Or maybe she's just scared of what she might find if she looks for him. So instead, Galadriel focuses on her anger and her need to take down Sauron. Losing her husband and brother and dealing with her anger towards Sauron are big parts of who Galadriel is.

How will Celeborn’s return affect Galadriel’s storyline in

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power?

The first season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power focused on the complex romance between Galadriel and Halbrand. Things took a surprising turn when Halbrand was revealed to be Sauron in disguise. Now, in light of Celeborn's return, this could spell trouble for the character's romance.

Though Galadriel has always been on the side of good, she formed a close bond with Halbrand and kept his true identity as Sauron a secret. The show may set up a storyline in which Galadriel is tempted by Sauron's power and forced to choose between her feelings for Halbrand and her loyalty to her husband, Celeborn.

Celeborn's return would add complexity to this situation. But it would also give Galadriel a reason to fight for what's right and bring down Sauron.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 is coming soon—mark your calendars for August 29, 2024, when it'll be available to stream on Prime Video.
