The first look of Dune: Prophecy is finally here. The project was first announced in 2019 with Dennis Villeneuve, Director of the Dune movie franchise, as executive producer and Director of its pilot episode. As the project evolved, his role in the series became unclear.

After the first look at Dune: Prophecy, it was finally revealed that Director Dennis Villeneuve is not involved in the HBO series. He served as writer and director for the two Dune movies and his involvement in the third Dune movie is likely the reason for him not being involved in the television series.

Therefore, his lack of involvement in Dune: Prophecy is worth considering. Dennis helped bring Frank Herbert's Universe to life and was expected that the director would be involved in making the HBO series in some way.

Here's what to know about Dennis' involvement and everything about Dune: Prophecy.

Executive Producer Jordan Goldberg spoke about Dennis' absence from Dune: Prophecy at the 2024 New York Comic Con and said,

''Well, Denis' got his own franchise that he's working on right now and he's been busy doing that and his own projects. He's really left to us to figure out how to platform the new characters and the new worlds...''

Dennis Villeneuve is reportedly working on the third installment of his Dune movie franchise and according to Goldberg, they have decided to keep it this way. Goldberg also called Dennis ''aspirational'' with his work on the new series.

While Dune: Prophecy is set to make its mark in television, leaving the shadows of Dennis' reputation with the project behind, it will be a real test for the show. It would be interesting to see this new creative standpoint of Dune without Dennis Villeneuve and whether the show will be able to succeed in his absence.
