Fans of All American were stunned when one of the sports drama's beloved characters, Darnell Hayes, left after appearing in the first four episodes of season 3.

Da’Vinchi, who played Darnell Hayes, had to exit the show due to scheduling conflicts as he was to appear in Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson's crime drama BMF, also known as Black Mafia Family.

All American premiered in October 2018. It follows Spencer James, played by Daniel Ezra, who dreams of becoming an NFL player. The life of Spencer Paysinger, an American football player, inspires the sports drama.

More on Da’Vinchi’s Dranell Hayes character and exit from All American.

All American: Who was Da’Vinchi’s Darnell Hayes and why did he leave?

Da’Vinchi joined All American in Season 2 as Spencer James’s half-brother, Darnell Hayes. Darnell was introduced as the new quarterback at South Crenshaw High School.

He and Spencer didn’t have a good relationship initially. One of the main reasons behind their conflicts, other than football, was their father Corey James’ (Chad L. Coleman) abandonment of Spencer’s family and his relationship with Da’Vinchi’s Darnell.

Due to his mother, Renee, being in the army, Corey raised Darnell alone and they had a close relationship. After they came back to Los Angeles and Darnell joined South Crenshaw High School, Spencer and Darnell started to butt heads.

However, their sibling rivalry faded in the final days of Corey’s life after which he was even invited to live with Spencer and his family by his mother Grace (Karimah Westbrook) as their relationship improved.

Fans loved the siblings’ camaraderie in Season 3, where they both played for the same team, with Jordan being on the opposite team. The start of the season also set his potential rivalry with Chris for the quarterback position. However, his sudden exit saddened fans of All American.

Da’Vinchi had to leave due to his prior commitment to the Starz series BMF which started filming during All American Season 3.

However, Da’Vinchi didn’t leave the All American Universe entirely as he has appeared as a guest star in all the seasons of the show. He came back to convince Spencer to not give up his dream of playing football ever.

Da’Vinchi appeared as Darnell Hayes up to Season 6 of the sports drama and is yet to appear in the current season.

Other than that, Da’Vinchi also appeared in a Broadway play, Thoughts of a Colored Man.

In addition to Darnell Hayes in All American, Da’Vinchi also appeared in Marvel’s Jessica Jones as Eric Ambrose. His other notable roles include the superhit show The Boys and the movie The Way Back.
