TRIGGER WARNING: This article discusses several controversies Invincible actor Ezra Miller was involved. It contains descriptions of violence

We meet mad scientist D. A. Sinclair all the way back in Invincible Season 1, Episode 6, where he experiments on the students of an upstate university and turns them into zombified cyborgs called Reanimen. While Invincible's D.A. Sinclair is apprehended at the concluding moments of the episode, Cecil employs him to create more Reanimen to fight Nolan Grayson or Omni Man.

But fans of Invincible noticed something different about Sinclair between seasons 1 and 2. Back in the first season, Invincible's D.A. Sinclair was voiced by none other than the now-dead DCEU Flash actor Ezra Miller. However, when Sinclair returned in "I'm Not Going Anywhere", the seventh episode of the second season, the character was voiced by Eric Bauza.

While Invincible Comics and show creator Robert Kirkman gave scheduling conflicts as the reason behind the recast, fans believe that Miller's ill reputation is the reason behind it.

Several troubling behaviors Invincible's Ezra Miller was involved in?

Miller was hired to voice the Invincible character D. A. Sinclair, who is a mad scientist behind zombie cyborg super soldiers called the Reanimen. However, the actor has been involved in a series of public misbehaviors since 2020. They (Miller uses they/them pronouns) choked a fan in a bar in Reykjavík on April 6, 2020. The actor has yet to apologize for this or any of their other actions.

After the 2020 incident in Iceland, Miller was thrown out of a bar in Hawaii for attempting to assault the bar patrons and was also arrested for it in March 2022. A Hawaiian couple Miller was staying with, bailed them out, but even their host filed a restraining order against the actor. The actor barged into the couple's bedroom and threatened physical harm.

In April 2022, Miller was arrested another time in Hawaii for throwing a chair at a party that ended up hitting a 26-year-old after they were told to leave the party premises. The chair Mille threw resulted in a half-inch cut on the woman's forehead. They (Miller) were arrested by the police for second-degree assault.

But the biggest controversy Miller was involved in was when they were accused of being a danger to children. After that, several other controversies such as starting a cult, and endangering a one-year-old also started coming out. This put a spotlight on all the projects the actor was involved in.

Why was Invincible's D.A. Sinclair voice actor recast?

Invincible creator Robert Kirkman sat down for an interview with Variety on April 4, 2024, after the season 2 finale. In that interview, editor Jordan Moreau asked Kirkman about the decision to recast Miler with Eric Bauza. Kirkman first compared this situation with that of recasting Jonathan Groff with Luke Macfarlane. His exact quote was:

"Like we saw with the Rick Sheridan role that was played by Jonathan Groff in Season 1 and Luke Macfarlane in Season 2 and similar to Game of Thrones when you have a cast that’s this large, and you’re recording in different times, sometimes availabilities are going to shift and recasting is going to be necessary. I think it’s going to be something that’s going to happen from time to time with this show."

Kirkman continued the quote by appreciating the current D.A. Sinclair actor Eric Bauza by saying:

"I think that Eric Bauza is an immense talent, and I am loving working with him, it’s a real opportunity to work with somebody that is so experienced in animation and has the skills and wealth of experience that he has. And I hope that Warner Bros. figures out a way to release the Coyote vs. Acme movie."

While Kirkman may have cited a busy schedule as a reason for the recast, it is possible that the several Ezra Miller scandals played a role in changing the voice actor to Eric Bauza.

Do you believe Kirkman that scheduling is the reason behind the recast? If you don't who D.A. Sinclair is, check out Invincible on Prime Video.
