As Cobra Kai drew its final curtain with season 6 part 3, one of the major expectations of the fans was to see a rematch between Johnny and Daniel. However, that did not materialize, and while it may have disappointed some fans, the show has given enough reasons over the seasons that make this decision seem logical.
Given the fact that Cobra Kai was a sequel to The Karate Kid movie, it essentially retained the rivalry between Johnny and Daniel as its central theme while also including new characters in the equation.
However, Cobra Kai also ensured that despite retaining the rivalry, these two characters are given arcs where their maturity comes to the forefront and they can leave the past behind. That is why the absence of a final rematch between Johnny and Daniel in Cobra Kai Season 6 makes sense.
Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 3 does not offer a rematch between Johnny and Daniel
As mentioned, despite the central theme of Cobra Kai focusing on the childhood rivalry and its subsequent progression into adulthood adversity between Johnny and Daniel, the finale does not offer a rematch between the two.
It should be noted here that Cobra Kai Season 5 had already marked a truce between Johnny and Daniel as they teamed up against someone they considered a mutual enemy.
However, this, of course, did not mean that everything between them went fine. It evidently set forth a journey of maturity where these two characters would eventually be more accepting of each other.
That is exactly what happens, and though their enmity towards each other makes a comeback as they train their students in Cobra Kai Season 6, it never culminates into a full-fledged battle as it would have essentially ruined the character development that both were shown to go through.
The finale of Cobra Kai does something even more beautiful than a fight between the two as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence are shown to be training together for the Sekai Taikai. This serves as a beautiful tribute to the growth that both the characters have undergone. It also validates Johnny’s redemption arc.
It also shows that despite being rivals for so long, these two were ultimately able to forgive each other, and that only made things better. What they achieved through putting aside their differences and past grudges could have never been achieved through a fight.
Cobra Kai keeps the essence of the show true while also offering a more mature and impactful finale that the fans will remember for a long time.
Cobra Kai can be streamed on Netflix.
