The Night Agent season 2 introduces the audience to Catherine Weaver, Peter Sutherland’s senior in Night Action. The two have to work closely throughout the season; however, Catherine does not get herself to trust Peter.

She is always doubtful of the agent’s real intentions and thinks he can betray their mission. Though Peter time and again proves his capabilities, Catherine thinks of him as someone who is hard to control.

Peter’s family history does not help his case, as his father was accused of leaking confidential FBI files. However, their relationship changes by the end of The Night Agent season 2 as Catherine finally acknowledges his efforts in stopping the chemical attack on the UN building.

Peter officially becomes a member of Night Action in The Night Agent season 2 after saving the President’s life. However, his handler, Catherine does not consider him worthy of the position.

She is not able to trust him as his father, Peter Sutherland Sr., had leaked classified FBI information in the past. The betrayal not only caused harm to the FBI but also led to the death of Catherine’s partner. She can not let go of the past and sees Peter as an extension of his father.

While Peter has earned his position with his bravery, Catherine believes he is a reckless man who often ignores orders and follows his own heart. Her concerns seem justified in The Night Agent season 2 when Peter’s partner, Alice, dies during a mission in Bangkok, while he goes missing.

Peter even accuses Catherine of being involved in Alice’s death without proof which further strains their relationship. Meanwhile, he makes some questionable decisions. He agrees to work with Jacob Monroe to steal classified UN documents to save Rose Larkin, the woman he loves.

This makes Cattherine feel he is an untrustworthy agent who prioritizes his personal attachments above his missions. However, she still tries to give him a chance and works with him on uncovering a conspiracy involving the Bala crime family.

As the two work together, they find out the Bala family is planning a chemical weapon attack on the UN building in New York City. When Peter finally saves the day by thwarting the attack, Catherine realizes he is deeply committed to the mission and is willing to save innocent people while risking his own life.

In The Night Agent season 2 finale, Catherine begins to trust Peter as he offers him a new role as a double agent, who needs to go against Monroe. While Catherine still has some doubts about Peter’s method of working, she realizes his willingness to bend the rules might be necessary to take down the Night Action’s enemies.
