Landman, the Paramount+ series revolves around the rustic world of oilfields in West Texas. Tommy Norris, the protagonist is an operations VP and petroleum landman at an oil company. The show is based on a Christian Wallace-hosted podcast titled "Boomtown". The showrunner of Landman is Taylor Sheridan, who was also behind Yellowstone and Tulsa King. Here is the synopsis for the series:

"Set in the boomtowns of Texas, Landman is a modern tale of fortune seeking amongst roughnecks and billionaires in the world of oil."

Curtains fell over Landman's first season when the tenth and final episode, "The Crumbs of Hope" was released on January 12, 2025. In the finale, Tommy is abducted by the cartel "boss" Jimenez. However, Tommy is saved by the real boss Galino, played by Andy García. He saves Tommy after making a mutually beneficial deal.

What happens in the Landman finale?

We see Jon Hamm's Monty Miller pass away in the hospital due to his poor heart condition in this Landman finale. Because of this, Tommy succeeds Miller as the owner of M-Tex and even gains control of Monty's estate. As that happens, he tries convincing Cami Miller to sell off M-Tex and live off the money made from the sale. However, she decides to spend company resources on a risky oil drilling gambit.

Meanwhile, Tommy tries resolving his differences with Rebecca, by reinstating her as the main lawyer and negotiator. As Tommy and his legal team are organizing their strategy, Tommy is kidnapped.

Who are Tommy's abductors in Landman?

Turns out, Tommy is abducted by the cartel under the orders of the "boss" Jimenez. He is tortured by the cartel and about to be killed when the rug is pulled under the viewers with a major cameo. It is revealed that the real boss is a man called Galino played by Andy García. This is the first time we see this character appear in Landman, setting up a major plot point for the second season.

Galino is introduced as a dignified cartel leader who wants to break away from the brutal and vicious cycle of violence. He saves Tommy in the Landman finale because he wants to move away from drugs and enter the world of oil drilling. Though reluctant, Tommy may have probably struck a deal with Galino that was beneficial for both of them, setting up the future events in Landman Season 2.

What did Christian Wallace and Billy Bob Thornton say about Garcia's appearance?

Wallace and Thornton sat down for an interview with Variety on January 12, 2025. They teased the show's future plotlines, and Thornton expressed happiness in working with Garcia in the Landman finale, saying:

"Andy is such a great guy and great actor, and when we did those scenes at the end of the last episode, it felt so good, because we kind of had us two old veterans going head to head. It was quite an experience, and I have to say every moment of it felt real. Tommy’s dealing with someone now who is really smart. The other guys were hired to work for him, but now Tommy’s talking to the man himself. There are advantages and disadvantages to that. Since he is so smart, who knows what Tommy is going to get tricked into?"

Both Wallace and Thornton also teased what we can expect in Landman Season 2. Wallace said,

"The cartel and the oil industry are kind of these odd neighbors living side by side in West Texas. Now Andy’s character is thinking he is going to make a change and utilize that proximity in a way that could benefit him."

Thornton added:

"What’s the saying? Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. Tommy figures if he semi-befriends this guy, maybe they can actually work this out, because it is going to happen one way or another."

These comments imply that Landman season 2 and (probable) future seasons may involve Andy Garcia's Gallino in a larger role. Tommy's uneasy alliance will mostly result in several obstacles down the line.
