Silo Season 2 makes us believe that Camille Sims is no ordinary character. She was once just a supporting player but is now in the spotlight for her actions. She is making us really doubt her true motives, too.
This series is based on the bestselling Silo series by Hugh Howey. It shows the lives of thousands living in a giant underground silo, governed by strict rules and shadowed by mysteries about the outside world.
In its second season, the series continues to highlight more power struggles. There are secrets and rebellions brewing beneath the surface. Episode 5 of Silo Season 2 left fans with questions, when Camille took a risky step and decided to help the Mechanical.
Camille, by now, has proven herself to be ambitious, and we’ve been trying to figure it out. This episode gives us all the more reason to doubt her actions. She is suddenly buddying up with the folks down in the Mechanical.
Is it out of the goodness of her heart or is it part of a bigger scheme? Let’s get into the nitty-gritty of it and break down what’s really going on with her motives.
Silo Season 2: Why does Camille Sims help the Mechanical?
By now, we all know that she’s got some beef with Bernard. Helping the Mechanical wasn’t just about sticking it to Bernard, though. Camille is playing the long game.
By siding with Knox and Shirley, she’s gaining the trust of the Mechanical. They are a group with growing influence in the Silo. Naturally, if the rebellion brewing in Silo 18 reaches full-blown chaos, having the Mechanical on her side could be a huge advantage.
At the same time, Camille seems to be nudging Robert to take risks — ones he might not have dared to take on his own. Camille’s manipulation adds fuel to his fire.
So, it’s likely that Camille is setting the stage for her own rise to power. Robert may just be a convenient pawn. Her not being entirely transparent with him gives us all the more reason to believe she has ulterior motives.
What’s going on with Camille and Bernard?
For starters, Camille has zero trust in Bernard. After all, he is the power-hungry overlord of Silo 18 who stripped her husband, Robert Sims, of his position as Head of Security. She just wants to throw Bernard off his position.
Robert was given the job of being a Judge when all Camille wanted was for Bernard to make him his shadow. Bernard, however, knows that he can’t fully rely on Robert, nor can he get rid of him entirely.
Then again, Camille is no amateur. She’s been playing her cards close to her chest. She’s pretending to be a loyal servant of the Pact though, in reality she’s plotting her moves.
Helping Knox and Shirley from the Mechanical escape wasn’t a random act of kindness. It was a calculated step in a much bigger game. Camille seems to be angling for a power play.
She’s positioning herself more than even her husband, to rise through the ranks. This would obviously mean throwing Bernard off his game.
This is a game of power and nobody seems to be ruling right now. However, we’re yet to see what happens in the future. For now, Bernard sees right through her facade. He realizes she’s actually climbing the ladder herself. He knows that Camille is gaining allies and slowly undermining his authority.
Camille has to plan her next move cleverly. It could make or break her ambitions. Her arc makes her one of the key players in the power games of Silo 18.
