After 14 years of portraying one of the main characters in Blue Bloods, many fans might be wondering about the reasons behind Bridget Moynahan's departure from the acclaimed police procedural drama. The actress played Erin Reagan (formerly Erin Reagan-Boyle), who serves as the Bureau Chief of the Trial Bureau, and is the only daughter of Frank Reagan among her siblings.

So, if you have been thinking about her departure, know that Bridget Moynahan never abandoned Blue Bloods. Her exit comes with the cancellation of the show after Season 14, which has upset every loyal fan.

For decades, Blue Bloods has been a staple on Friday nights, focusing on the titular Reagan family with deep ties to law enforcement in New York City. The show debuted on CBS in 2010, and quickly gained popularity for blending police procedural and family drama.

However, fans will have to rewatch the previous episodes if they wish to catch up with the Reagan dinners and political intrigue as CBS has confirmed the cancellation. Interestingly, the show's conclusion didn't sit well with cast members including Tom Selleck, Bridget Moynahan, and others.

A few months back, Bridget Moynahan appeared on the talk show Sherri, where she expressed her thoughts after the show had been canceled. The actress said:

"It's bittersweet. I want my job back! It was a good run. 14 years with a group of people, we were a family on and off the screen."

After describing her departure as a bittersweet moment, Moynahan also shared that she's still in touch with the cast members as they have formed close bonds over the years.

Among her three brothers Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), Joe (Will Hochman), and Jamie (Will Estes), Erin stands as the second oldest child of Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck). While she is not directly involved in the NYPD, her role as an attorney ties her up with law enforcement.

Throughout the season in Blue Bloods, Erin has reflected her principled, determined, and sometimes morally conflicted persona, which occasionally leads to conflicts in her family. She is a dedicated district attorney who never compromises with justice, and tries hard to balance her family dynamics and legal responsibilities.

She initially considered joining the police force, but eventually decided to pursue a legal career. It was in Blue Bloods Season 12 when Erin shared her plans to run for the District Attorney after her former boss was arrested in the previous season.

Apart from her professional life, Erin's relationship with her ex-husband, Jack Boyle, has been a major part of her story. Erin married Boyle when she was 19, and the two then welcomed their daughter, Nicky.

However, Erin often felt lonely during her marriage and filed for a divorce. Jack initially refused to sign the paper and let Erin have full custody of their child, but eventually agreed. The two reconciled after Erin was shot, but didn't initiate a romantic relationship.

Erin explored a few relationships with men including Charles Rossellini, Jacob Krystal, and Robert McCoy, but none of them lasted long. Finally, in the end, it was Jack, with whom Erin again found peace and the Blue Bloods finale also hinted at their secret remarriage.

Bridget Moynahan was accompanied by her co-star, Donnie Wahlberg, at The Drew Barrymore Show, where the two opened up about their thoughts on the show being concluded. The John Wick star said:

"I think it's more saying goodbye to the people behind the characters... We've created such a family on set with each other and the crew."

The actress also mentioned that Wahlberg has been her "biggest supporter" during Blue Bloods, especially when she was directing an episode of Season 14. Interestingly, Wahlberg and Moynahan aren't the only ones upset with the show's end, as the lead actor also expressed his dissapointment during one of his interviews.
