The event in question owes its occurrence to the demise of the grand Dragon, Avizandum, the King of Dragons, popularly known as "Thunder." It is this incident in the Netflix animated series, The Dragon Prince Season 7, that has set ablaze the ruin of the heart within the tie between humans and magical creatures in the realm of Xadia. Avizandum has been tied to all things revengeful and evil magic with increased strain between the species.
Why was Avizandum killed? Reason Explained
The most close event that would make Avizandum die was the wish of King Harrow to pay back the death of his wife, Queen Sarai. Sarai was killed by Avizandum several years back when she was sent into Xadia to try and bring back the heart of a Magma Titan to ease a shortage of produce in Katolis.
Harrow had never been at peace, but the actions only incited him to seek revenge against the Dragon King. To Harrow, the adviser was the dark sorcerer, Viren. He trailed the expedition, where he found Avizandum. After so much dark magic of Viren's, those who sought to savage Avizandum found a head encased in ice. Later, Harrow was left to kill this dragon, after all, he had a very doubtful situation due to that attempt.
Avizandum is dead not just because of personal vengeance but also because of larger forces, perhaps in political and ideological terms. To Viren, who believes in the progress of humanity by any means, the Dragon King was getting in the way of human advancement and dominion, killing him to establish the superiority of humans over Avizandum, thereby gaining access to Xadia's magical sources.
This raises the ethical issue that makes this series tick: assassination through dark magic. The very use of dark magic, of harnessing life essences of magical creatures, makes clay of ethical need-whitened boundaries of survival and exploitation. His readiness to use any means tells more about his moral ambiguity and any possible lengths to achieve his ends.
The Consequences and Ripple Effects After Avizandum's Death
A wider ripple effect spread across the continent after the murder of Avizandum. It escalated the hostilities between humans and the people of Xadia, intensifying every fighting process and launching a wave of revenge. It left the Dragon Prince, Azymondias, without a father, bringing to its central plot the adventure to return the young dragon to his rightful place and restore harmony between the enemies.
Additionally, there was a power vacuum that came as a result of Avizandum's death. This opportunity was well taken by another oppressive force, the magical Startouch Elf, Aaravos, who has plans of his own and thus complicates the geopolitical scenario of the series even further.
It is a deeply personal event, for it is in the sawdust of blood called death that he falls because of Amani's vengeance, dark magic, and political ambitions. This event becomes much more than a turning point in the plot as it functions as a harbinger of far more comprehensive themes of revenge, power ethics, and redemptive chances in a divided world.
Season 7 of The Dragon Prince premiered on December 19, 2024. You can watch all the seasons of the show on Netflix.
