Agatha All Along is sparking more questions than answers, especially about the villain. Following the post-WandaVision series, Agatha Harkness and her coven embark on a journey across the mystical Witches' Road while facing various threats.

With every episode, fans have been speculating the identity of the antagonist since more mysteries were introduced. Fans are increasingly inclined to believe that Mephisto, one of the rumored characters for years, will be the primary antagonist.

Others believe it to be Rio Vidal, Nicholas Scratch, or even Agatha herself.

Here, we take a look at some Agatha All Along fan theories, potential villains, and what might be going on in Agatha's journey down the Witches' Road.

Fan theories about Agatha All Along's villain

Since the beginning of the series, it has been subject to intense fan theories, so much so that some fans have speculated that the villain is not human. Others have gone on to state that the villain might not be human after all.

The series, however, got some flak from Screen Rant over the bombastic action sequences, so Agatha All Along could very well take a more introspective route instead. Perhaps the real danger to the coven and all those within it is Witches' Road and the magic that accompanies it.

Magic has always lived in the MCU, and knowing that, in this show, it can be both, a means and a cause for danger. That would change the old quality of villainy in the previous Marvel movies probably into a thematic approach toward such power and responsibility.

One commenter on Reddit proposed that Agatha's son, or the character often termed Teen, could occupy much of Agatha All Along.

They posted, "I believe Teen is a manifestation of an evil being, whether that is Mephisto, Chthon, or even the Darkhold itself."

This would relate to a great deal of WandaVision's lore, which involved much about the Darkhold for its plot. It raises a possibility that the darkness Agatha has been tapping into is consuming the coven as they go farther into this mystical realm.

A fan on X (formerly Twitter) weighed in on the idea and proposed,

“Agatha’s true enemy could be herself. She’s always been her own worst enemy, and her thirst for power will be her undoing.”

It is an old trope of the protagonist being the antagonist, and Agatha, leading her coven, will eventually betray it for her own good.

Could Mephisto be the real villain in Agatha All Along?

Mephisto may be the most widely debated possible antagonist in Agatha All Along. His entry into the MCU has been something fans have been waiting for for a long time, and this series may be a perfect platform for his entry.

This makes Mephisto's name mentioned by Jennifer Kale at the end of the third episode, leaving it on a major cliffhanger. Mephisto has been teased by Marvel for years, especially in Phase Four, but is yet to be confirmed.

Jac Schaeffer, showrunner of the series, when asked about this rumor, jokingly commented to Entertainment Weekly,

“As we all know, Mephisto is a character who’s very wrapped into Agatha’s storyline... people have to watch, but we’re always playing with the audience in that way."

If it is Mephisto controlling the puppets on Agatha All Along, then it's not Agatha and her coven at the helm of everything; rather, it's a much bigger, greater, and phenomenal force than the one they seem to be in charge of.

This would explain the expansion of Marvel's ever-widening themes about its mysticism and multiverse parts. Mephisto's role may also hold more plotlines for the future series of Marvel, with Ironheart releasing next.

There are expectations that the character will take on a significant role in it but, until further episodes are produced, the terms of his involvement are still unknown.

Is Agatha Harkness her own worst enemy in Agatha All Along?

A final and convincing theory is that Agatha Harkness herself is the real evil one in her series. The whole time during WandaVision, Agatha was depicted as a power-hungry witch more than eager to do whatever it takes to have her magic restored.

This characterization continues in Agatha All Along, where one would reasonably assume that her selfish motivations take center stage. Screen Rant has pointed out that the ultimate goal of Agatha is to regain her purple magic, and she looks like she would sacrifice almost anybody, including her coven, for it.

She doesn't care about people around her, and Agatha's callousness is especially noticeable in episode three, when one of her coven members, Sharon Davis, dies. Obsession with power and the Witches' Road may make her the biggest threat to herself, to her coven, and eventually to the entire MCU.

This would be a great introspective arc for the villain, as Agatha's ambition works against her. We'll have to wait until this theory is well and truly played out, but most seem to agree that Agatha's selfishness makes her one of the best candidates to be Agatha All Along's true big bad.
