The Dateline NBC episode Killer Role explored the dark side of actress-turned-killer Tucker Moore-Reed. Reed is a novelist and a former civil rights activist who started her education at Ashland High School in Oregon.
She has a background in news reporting and has also worked as an editor for her school newspaper, The Rogue News. Reed has recently played an important role in the independent horror film From The Dark (2020).
Her part in the movie was that of a woman who kills a man in self-defense. Surprisingly, Tucker later murdered her uncle, Share Moore, on July 26, 2016, under similar circumstances.
Aisling Tucker Moore-Reed was an aspiring actor who lived in her ailing grandmother Lore Reed's house in Oregon. Tucker's mother, Kelly Reed, was also staying with them.
Shane's murder was the result of a heated argument between Kelly and Tucker on one side and Shane on the other. It all started with a dispute over property and allegations of violence. The official synopsis of the Dateline episode Killer Role reads:
"After filming wraps on an indie horror movie, the cast members learn their lead actress is not who she says she is and has been charged with killing her uncle."
Who is Tucker Moore-Reed?
Tucker Moore-Reed was born on October 15, 1989, in Los Gatos, California, United States. As a teenager, she attended Ashland High School in Oregon and later enrolled at the University of Southern California to pursue a degree in broadcast journalism, cinema, and theatre.
As reported, she worked as the chief editor for her high school's newspaper and was also associated with The Daily Trojan, a University of Southern California student newspaper. Later, in 2014, she dropped out of college.
Tucker also worked on a novel called Amber House (at the mere age of 19) with her mother, Kelly Moore (a best-selling author), and her sister, Larkin. The first installment of the trilogy received immense critical appreciation, thereby cracking a big deal with Scholastic's Arthur A. Levine Books.
Tucker Reed later got published in the Cosmopolitan Magazine and worked for the Grants Pass Daily Courier. In 2020, she played the antagonist in the independent horror film From The Dark, directed by Matthew Spikard and Patrick Dolan.
Why was Tucker Moore-Reed convicted?
On the afternoon of July 26, 2016, Tucker Reed reportedly shot her uncle Shane Moore at her Thompson Creek Road house over a long-raging property dispute. Tucker was not on good terms with her uncle, and in 2016, Shane got arrested as he was suspected of assault.
Tucker also got a restraining order issued against him. Shane arrived at Lore's residence on July 26, 2016, where Tucker and Kelly were also staying. He wanted his mother Lore's property divided and was looking forward to the deed papers being signed.
When he appeared at the scene with public notary Carla Tryber, Kelly tore the deed paper into pieces. The whole situation took the form of a heated argument and prompted Tucker to fire the gun at her uncle.
As reported by Sportskeeda, in July 2016, Tucker Reed was indicted on charges of first and second-degree manslaughter by a grand jury. As the reports came in from Oxygen, Tucker was staying at her grandmother's place with her mother, Kelly, as they all were afraid of Shane's violent behavior.
As per Kelly's statements, Shane was involved with cannabis and cooking methamphetamine. He had, on multiple occasions, threatened to kill Kelly and Tucker for failing to drop the assault charges against him.
Tucker pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter on May 27, 2020. She was sentenced to six years and three months.
According to reports, Tucker Reed is currently serving her sentence at the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, Wilsonville, Portland. The charges of first-degree manslaughter and second-degree murder against her were dropped as part of a plea deal.
After she is released from prison, Tucker will be under the supervision of the Oregon Department of Corrections for three years. She will be eligible for release from custody on November 25, 2024.
