Netflix's new animated fantasy-action film, Devil May Cry, created by Adi Shankar, was released on April 3, 2025. Based on the popular Japanese video game by Capcom, the plot of the series is based on how Dante, the demon hunter hired by the Dark Realm Command, saves the Earth from supernatural demonic invasions. The demonic invasions are headed by White Rabbit, a slender demon with a humanoid rabbit-like appearance.

Voiced by Hoon Lee in English and Ryotaro Okiayu in Japanese, the White Rabbit is the main antagonist of the Netflix series. The White Rabbit dones a black suit with white cuffs, most likely in Victorian-era style. He has several marks on his body and two visible scars on his face. His eyes emit a bright yellow-orange shine, and he also wears a round lens glass. His rabbit mask conceals his identity.

The White Rabbit is a minor manga character who debuted in the 2005 Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening. The comic was based on the plot preceding the game; however, its timeline does not match the game, although it contains scenes from it, departing the fantasy film from the game.

Here's what we know about The White Rabbit in Netflix's Devil May Cry.

As stated earlier, the White Rabbit is a minor manga character from the Devil May Cry 3, where he was referred to as Rabbi by Alice. In the manga, the white rabbit hires Dante to rescue Alice to test Dante's abilities.

Creator and executive producer Adi Shankar has taken creative liberties to elevate the minor character of the manga into a primary antagonist for the Netflix adaptation.

Apart from that, several fan theories link The White Rabbit to the alternate version of Lady's (Mary) father, Arkham. According to this theory, Arkham experiments to become a demon, taking inspiration from Lewis Carrol's Alice in the Wonderland character. This theory supplies a personal leverage, connecting Lady and Arkham, defining their conflict.

However, in Netflix's Devil May Cry, the White Rabbit is a human who transformed into an artificial demon through self-experimentation. He is an antagonist with a tragic backstory who is introduced as an orphan who was abused by his foster parents. Unable to take such abuse, he slowly turns his interests toward Makai, a portal to a darker realm. He forms deep connections with the residents of Makai and befriends them. But when humans invade Makai, they end up destroying it, resulting in the death of his friends. Thus, the White Rabbit turns to darkness to provide justice for the residents of Makai. He begins experimenting on demons to empower them against humans. While self-experimenting, he transforms himself into a demon to avenge the injustice on the Makai residents.

The official trailer of Devil May Cry shows the White Rabbit taking the role of the lead antagonist as he utters,

"Here we stand at the threshold of the new age. The age of the demons."

What follows is the White Rabbit threatening and challenging Dante regarding his mission to destroy Earth. He says,

"This world's reckoning is already in motion. All you can do is ease its passing."
