Silo, the dystopian sci-fi Apple TV show, was highly anticipated for a second season after the shocking finale of Silo Season 1. Based on Hugh Howey's trilogy of books, the story follows a dystopian time where the last of humanity lives in massive silos, which are supposed to 'protect' them from the outside uninhabitable world.
However, as the show progresses, Rebecca Ferguson's Juliette Nichols understands the true nature of this massive structure, which might be lying to its residents. In the final moments of season 1, she steps out of her structure and discovers that there are dozens of Silos existing.
In the season 2 premiere, Juliette meets another resident in a different structure. The main cast is joined by actor Steve Zahn who plays Solo on the show and Juliette meets him after stepping out of her Silo 18.

Who is Steven Zahn's Solo in Silo Season 2?
After Juliette steps out of her home in the season 1 finale, she discovers many such structures. On approaching a structure that seems deserted at first, she hears Audrey Hepburn's Moon River playing in the distance.
She approaches the sound and finds a vault. When she tries to open it, she sees Solo peering through a slit who threatens to kill her if she opens the door again.
While the episode ends with Solo's introduction, viewers can expect his backstory, as written in the books. Actor Zahn is excited to join the cast and portray a morally grey character like Solo-
"Solo is a good name for the guy. He's been through a lot, and his world stopped at a certain point.''
He further added,
"So it's a really fascinating character to dive into and then to play opposite this other person [Ferguson as Juliette] who's so different, but they both want something from each other and need something from each other, in that process, it becomes really interesting relationship."
How is Solo's character portrayed in Hugh Howey's trilogy of Silo books?
Solo is an important character in Howey's books, who appears in the last two sections of Wool, the first novella in the trilogy.
While the series could take a completely different turn than the books, the survivor meets Juliette under similar circumstances (as season 2's Solo). He is identified as Jimmy Parker, an IT head son, and he tells her about all the other existing silos and how to communicate with them.
He also reveals to her that he is the last survivor (thus his name, Solo) after the great uprising decades ago, in which almost everyone from his 'home' died.
If the show follows the books faithfully, it will go in a flashback to reveal the origins of these structures and the great uprising commanded by Silos 1, as told by Jimmy.
Solo remains one of the primary characters with whom Juliette interacts outside of her home and who provides an important piece of her puzzle.
