Stephen Amell is back on the TV screen with a new challenge. He will be donning the corporate suit on NBC's Suits: L.A., a spinoff of the superhit show Suits. The first look of the show suggests that Amell will be essaying the role of Ted Black, the founding partner of an entertainment law firm based out of Los Angeles.

This wouldn't be the first time Amell will be seen in a role rubbing shoulders with the high and mighty of the corporate law world. The actor played Mayor Oliver Queen in Arrow Season 4, a show Amell is primarily known for. He played a masked vigilante who decides to run for mayor after a successful career as a high-profile corporate lawyer.

Amell reprised the role of Oliver Queen even after Arrow ended. He was seen in the episode "It's My Party and I'll Die If I Want To" of The Flash Season 9 playing Oliver Queen. Just like on Arrow, Amell will be playing the lead on Suits: L.A., more than a decade after playing the Green Vigilante.

However, his character in Suits: L.A. will not be a direct spinoff of Suits characters Harvey Spector and Mike Ross. Reportedly, Ted Black is a former prosecutor in New York who moves to LA to start a private firm called Black Lane Law. But his story is not going to be what it seems. Ted Black has a past and a dark story that might have some contribution to his "selfish force of nature" image. Also, unlike Harvey and Mike, Ted Black and Stuart Lane might not become a lawyer duo but manage the firm from the top.

Amell's Journey to Arrow

Though Arrow was his most popular work on television and gained him mass recognition, Stephen Amell was seen on many shows before the superhero fantasy. He started his career back in 2004 with Queer as Folk and Dante's Cove. While he did not have long-running roles in either, he was seen in recurring roles in the TV series Heartland before joining the cast of Vampire Diaries in Season 2.

By 2011, things had begun to get interesting for Amell with a wide variety of roles coming to him. He played the convicted killer Joran in the film Justice for Natalee Holloway and was also seen as a prostitute in HBO's series Hung. Amell starred as paramedic Scottie on ABC's medical drama Private Practice. That same year, he experimented with comedy with his role as Kyle in Zooey Deschanel's New Girl.

It was in January 2012 that Amell was cast as Oliver Queen in Arrow. The show is based on the DC Comics superhero with a new approach to the characters. Amell's performance as Oliver Queen catapulted him to fame as the series progressed. He played a masked superhero who acted as a city vigilante fighting against crime and corruption. Donning a green costume, his weapon of choice was the classic bow and arrow.

Amell reprised his role as Oliver Queen on other superhero series that CW produced. He showcased his physical abilities as a vigilante in the 2016 animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

A stint with Professional Wrestling

Apart from being a professional wrestling fan, Amell also participated in wrestling matches. In 2015, he made his professional wrestling debut with Raw, where he confronted Stardust (Cody Rhodes). Interestingly, the two became friends, and Rhodes worked with Amell on Arrow.

Amell participated in a tag team match with Rhodes again in 2017 for Ring of Honor and was seen accompanying Rhodes at the 2020 All Elite Wrestling's Revolution.

Amell's new role as the face of Suits: LA will be his first series lead after Arrow. Suits: LA will showcase Ted Black taking on the challenges and decision-making strategies involved in dealing with the high and mighty clients of LA while trying to lead his firm out of a critical situation.

Suits: LA premieres on NBC on February 23, 2025.
