A young and talented Irish actor Saise Quinn stars in both seasons of Apple TV+ Bad Sisters, where she plays the role of Blánaid Williams, Paul and Grace’s teenage daughter who has to navigate her own life along with surviving the coercive and abusive marriage of her parents.
Despite being young, Saise Quinn has been noticed because of her acting skills and screen presence. Let us now explore in detail where this actress has been seen before and what her role is in Bad Sisters.
Saise Quinn's previous works before starring in Bad Sisters
The young Irish actor debuted with Arracht (Monster), a 2019 Irish period-drama film, written and directed by Tomás Ó Súilleabháin. The film is set during Ireland’s Great Famine and was selected as the Irish entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards. However, the film failed to get a nomination.
Saise Quinn played the role of Kitty, a young girl who was a witness to Patsy’s murders. Colmán Sharkey (Dónall Ó Héalaí), the film’s protagonist finds her in a state of illness and nurses her back to health.
The two form a bond as Colmán teaches Kitty to treat wounds, row, and catch fish. Colmán also tries to get Kitty adopted so that she can leave for the mainland when winter comes.
However, in the middle of all this, Patsy (Dara Devaney), who was previously assumed to be dead, comes back and it is revealed that he has framed Colmán for the murders he committed. His arrival leads to a confrontation between him and Colmán and Patsy takes Kitty hostage.
Eventually, Kitty defends herself using the knife that Colmán had gifted her and Patsy is killed by Colmán. As the film ends, Colmán and Kitty hug each other. Saise Quinn gave a beautiful performance as Kitty, bringing out the character's vulnerability and fears brilliantly while also portraying her gradual transformation into a woman who can defend herself.
What is Saise Quinn’s role in Bad Sisters?
In the first season of Bad Sisters, Quinn played the role of 12-year-old Blánaid Williams, who was just about to hit puberty. Since the second season is set around 2 years after the first season, her character is now 14 or so.
In an interview with The Upcoming during the 2022 London premiere of Bad Sisters, Quinn mentioned how being a teenager herself helps her understand the character of Blánaid Williams better.
She said,
“I definitely relate to I think her, our personalities are very [much] the same. I know it's kind of the teenager effect as well, she just wants mom to go away and I kind of definitely relate to that. I don't think I had to prepare as much to be honest.”
Quinn’s performance in Bad Sisters is realistic and as she mentioned, given she is playing a character she can relate to, it becomes natural looking on screen. The episode where she asks her aunt Eva to buy her a bra since she cannot ask her parents brings out the troubles of being the child of an abusive couple and Quinn’s performance is commendable there.
Bad Sisters Season 1 and episodes 1-5 of season 2 can be streamed on Apple TV+ with new episodes dropping weekly on every Wednesday.
