HBO’s Dune: Prophecy has won over the audience with its fascinating story, sci-fi elements, and impressive cast performances. The show, a prequel to Denis Villeneuve’s Dune film series, takes place 10,000 years before the birth of the movie’s protagonist, Paul Atreides.

The series is centered on two sisters, Valya Harkonnen and Tula Harkonnen, who establish the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood. As the majority of the story revolves around the two, the actresses playing the roles have done a stellar job as the leads.

Olivia Williams was cast in Dune: Prophecy in June 2023. The Tula Harkonnen actress has already been seen in a number of projects before this. She is a trained actress who attended the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and later joined the Royal Shakespeare Company.

While doing theater, she made episodic appearances in shows such as Van der Valk and The Ruth Rendell Mysteries. In 1997, Olivia made her big-screen debut by appearing in the films, The Postman, Gaston's War, and Beck.

A year later, she was seen in NBC’s massively popular sitcom Friends, playing Joey’s girlfriend Felicity in a couple of episodes. Olivia then shot to fame playing Rosemary Cross in the 1998 comedy film, Rushmore, and Anna Crowe in the 1999 psychological thriller film, The Sixth Sense.

In 2002, she won a British Independent Film Award for her performance as Madeleine in the period drama, The Heart of Me. She also earned praise for her role in the 2010 neo-noir political thriller, The Ghost Writer, and won several awards as Best Supporting Actress.

Her other popular film credits include An Education (2009), Hanna (2011), Sabotage (2014), and Victoria & Abdul (2017). On television, Olivia gained stardom by playing Jane Austen in the BBC film, Miss Austen Regrets in 2008.

She later became a household name with her main role as Adelle DeWitt in Fox’s sci-fi series, Dollhouse. Her portrayal of the complicated and calculating head of a mysterious organization earned her a loyal fan base.

Olivia Williams then received acclaim for another sci-fi series, starring as Emily Burton Silk in Starz’s Counterpart from 2017 to 2019. She showcased her versatility by playing two versions of the same character in parallel universes on the show.

In recent years, Olivia has taken on high-profile roles, such as Lady Priscilla Hamilton in the period drama ITV’s The Halcyon (2017) and Lavinia Bidlow in HBO’s The Nevers (2021). The actress further showcased her range by playing Camilla Parker Bowles on Netflix’s The Crown in Seasons 5 and 6.

In 2024 she has mesmerized the audience with her performance as Tula Harkonnen in Dune: Prophecy. Olivia will next be seen in the third season of Prime Video’s fantasy drama, The Wheel of Time.

Irish actress Emma Canning portrays the younger version of Tula Harkonnen in the flashback scenes of Dune: Prophecy. She is also a trained actress, who attended the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London, graduating in 2019.

Emma made her screen debut two years later as Isabelle in the Netflix mystery crime drama, The Irregulars. She has also been seen in the historical drama, Domina, playing young Antonia.

In 2024, Emma was in two Apple TV+ shows: the biographical drama, The New Look, and the war drama, Masters of the Air. On Dune: Prophecy, she has appeared in three episodes. While her role in the show is brief, she has been able to make a lasting impact on the audience.
