James Gunn's DC animated series, Creature Commandos, launched on December 5, 2024 to positive reviews from critics and audiences alike. The adult animated series on Max reimagines the origin stories of a black ops team of monsters through the episodes. Each episode features the origin story of a monster protagonist, voiced by an ensemble cast.

Among those featured on the show is Victor Frankenstein, and the episode dedicated to his story shows how he created the monster and his Bride. The Bride in Creature Commandos is voiced by British actress Indira Varma, and retells her tale of escape from her obsessive stalker.

What are Creature Commandos' Indira Varma's other notable projects?

Indira Varma was born to an Indian father and a Swiss mother, and raised in Bath, Somerset. She got her first acting role as a courtesan in Mira Nair's Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love (1996). She then appeared in many more movies, including Jinnah and Bride & Prejudice.

On TV, she made her debut in 1996 on the series, Crucial Tales. She was then selected to play Niobe in the second season of BBC/HBO's award-winning historical drama, Rome.

She then went on to do minor and major roles in TV shows including Suzie Costello in Torchwood, Dr Adrienne Holland in 3 lbs, and Zoe in the BBC series Luther. She also guest-starred as Inspector Cate Pritchard in Bones.

Her other breakthrough roles are as Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones and the lead role of DC Nina Suresh in Netflix's Paranoid.

Like Shelley's book, Creature Commandos also reveals the origins of The Bride, which was created by Victor Frankenstein as a companion for his monster creation, Eric Frankenstein, on the show. Unlike many canons and live action versions, The Bride is her own person on the show and abhors Eric, the monster who is supposed to be her companion.

In her origin story, it is revealed how Eric loves the Bride to obsession and stalks her. But, the Bride falls in love with the doctor, and when Eric learns about her intimate relationship with his creator, he kills the latter in a fit of rage. The Bride mourns the loss of her lover/creator while trying to take Eric down.
