Who is Michael in Black Doves?
Michael is a compassionate artist and the ex-partner of Sam Young. They once shared a loving relationship but it ended badly. In episode 1, during a dinner scene, we learn that Michael now has another partner and a child that often upsets Sam due to his lingering feelings for him.
In episode 3 we get to see a glimpse of the kind of loving relationship Michael and Sam had. Some tender moments in bed were further intervened by brutal violence as some masked men broke into their house. Michael wakes up to the sound of gunshots and realizes that Sam wasn't completely honest in their relationship.
Amidst the chaos, Sam is constantly trying to protect Michael by telling him to stay behind him, close his eyes, and just follow his instructions. At this moment of helplessness Michael felt betrayed. All this while Michael was unaware of Sam's life as an assassin.
Do Michael and Sam end up together in Black Doves?
Sam is now entangled in Helen's revenge plot. This escalates the danger around Sam. Lenny, the antagonist of the show tries to manipulate Sam to assassin Hector Newman or his assassin will execute Michael. This poses a challenge for Sam and feelings between Sam and Michael again start to intensify.
After the killing of Alex and Trent Clark, the dangers around Sam further escalate. In the season finale, Sam and Michael had the last dance in Michael's apartment. Hector confronts Sam at Michael's house and offers him to work with him and stay in the criminal world or leave London forever. Michael overhears his conversation and realizes that the kind of peaceful future he imagines with Sam is anyways never possible.
At this moment Michael part ways with Sam. The ending of Black Doves also reflects Sam's decision to walk away rather than interrupt Michael's life.
