At the center of Running Point is the fictional basketball team The Waves. Running Point is a ten-episode comedy series created by Mindy Kaling and is exclusively available now on Netflix. Kate Hudson of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery fame leads the ensemble cast, playing the character of Isla Gordon.

Among the other characters and cast members, the character of Marcus Winfield, played by actor Toby Sandeman has drawn particular attention. Marcus Winfield is different from the others on the basketball team since he's a marquee and a veteran of the sport. He has two Olympic gold medals as well as twelve All-Star Game appearances to his credit.

In a similar vein, Toby Sandeman too has been an accomplished athlete turned model and actor. Here's everything that we know about him.

Running Point star Toby Sandeman's career and notable projects explored in detail

Running Point star Toby Sandeman was born on March 2, 1988, at Hammersmith in the vicinity of London. Right from an early age, Sandeman was exposed to sports and athletics with his parents. At the early age of six, he accompanied his family as they relocated from England to Barbados, where they stayed till he was fifteen years old.

Sandeman's return to England was facilitated by a rugby scholarship that he secured from Downside School. At school, he was inadvertently drawn more towards athletics than rugby and had once competed at the English Schools' Athletics Championship. Despite not winning any major contests, Sandeman kept training and preparing himself. He eventually came in contact with Ron Roddan, who would subsequently coach him for the 200-meter sprint at the 2008 UK Athletics National Championships.

Alongside his athletic career, Sandeman also dabbled in modeling. His modeling career took off after he participated in a photoshoot with Naomi Campbell for Vogue. By this time, he had also worked with Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. His television debut came in 2017 with a recurring role on E! Primetime drama The Royals. He followed this up with an appearance on the crime drama Raising Kanan and then went on to appear on the comedy-drama The Game.

Running Point star Toby Sandeman speaks about his journey from being an athlete to being an actor

Toby Sandeman spoke in a 2023 interview with People magazine, during which he revealed the reasons why he switched his career from athletics to acting:

"I fell out of love with the sport and this huge void sort of arose. For me, I didn't know what I was going to do in my life. I thought that I was going to just go out there and have to find a job and make my way in the world."

He further revealed that the acting bug bit him after he took his brother to an acting class:

"The teacher wouldn't let me sit out. I think it was just improving a scene, but it was fun, and that's all it was at that time. There was no awakening or anything like that. But I thought it was interesting, and I went back to that class."

Running Point is exclusively available on Netflix.
