Rufus Frederik Sewell plays the character of Hal Wyler, Kate's husband in The Diplomat. Sewell is a British actor who got his break in 1993 when he played the character of Tim in Michael Winner's film Dirty Weekend.
In the same year, Sewell starred in BBC George Eliot's Middlemarch and Tom Stoppard's play Arcadia at The Royal National Theatre. He has many film and television credits.

A recent article via Netflix's Tudum confirms that Hal will be an ''ally'' to Kate while she gathers proof against the British Prime Minister.
While the couple was shown in argument consistently in the first season, with Kate almost deciding to divorce Hal, it will be interesting to see if their marriage will mend in the upcoming season.
The Diplomat Season 2 premieres on Netflix on October 31.
