Eugene is a shy, sweet, and nerdy boy who is the president of the beekeeping club at Nevermore Academy. In a school full of outcasts, he doesn’t have any friends. He has a crush on Enid and becomes friends with Wednesday when she joins his beekeeping club. She saves him from bullies as he reminds her of her brother, Pugsley. He helps her investigate the murders taking place in Jericho.

In episode 4 titled “Woe What a Night”, Wednesday and Eugene decide to stake out the cave and identify the monster. However, Wednesday changed the plan at the last minute and went to the Rave’N dance with Tyler. She tells Eugene to not go alone in the cave as it is too dangerous but Eugene decides to go to the cave alone. When everybody was at the dance, Eugene went to the woods alone and saw someone setting the cave on fire. The person noticed him and pointed their torch at him, which made Eugene run away from there. Wednesday gets a vision at the dance that Eugene is in the woods and he is in danger, so she rushes out to help him. Eugene trips while running and loses his glasses. He hears Wednesday’s voice, but before she can find him, he gets attacked by the monster.

Eugene gets badly injured and goes into a coma. Wednesday visits him in the hospital a few times, as she feels responsible for his condition and believes he doesn't deserve this. In the final episode, Eugene regains his consciousness and tells Wednesday what he saw that day. Because of him, Wednesday was able to find out who controls Hyde. Later, when he gets to know that Wednesday is in danger, he leaves the hospital to save her, as she is his only friend. He saves Wednesday by attacking Marilyn Thornhill with a swarm of bees controlled by him.
