Who is Cobra Kai star Patrick Luwis? Exploring his major projects and career so far

While Patrick Luwis has some big titles under his name, his breakthrough role came in Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2 as Axel.

Luwis discovered his passion for acting when he attended a theatre class at Hampden-Sydney College as part of the mandatory curriculum and realized that he loved it. Throughout that year in college, Luwis performed in many plays like Romeo & Juliet, Biloxi Blues, The Mystery of Irma Vep, and La Bête.

He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Rhetoric and later took on an acting course in New Zealand.

Luwis finally moved to Los Angeles, where he got his first TV role in Hulu's The Dropout, where he played Amanda Seyfried's college boyfriend. His other TV credits include Animal Kingdom, NCIS, and Danger Force.

He is also known for the two Rebel Moon movies and 2023 Greta Grewig's movie Barbie. He has also appeared in short films like Gloria and Betty, Game on!, Midnight Turkeys, The Gambler, and 9 Minutes.

Exploring Patrick Luwis' character in Cobra Kai Season 6

Patrick Luwis' Axel Kovačević is established as a supporting character and secondary antagonist in Season 6 Part 2. He is the male Captain, alongside female captain, Zara Malik, of the Iron Dragons dojo, who are trained under the mentorship of Sensei Wolf.

Axel's fighting skills in the show's last season are quite exceptional, with strong command in both offense and defense. His martial skills make him an exceptional fighter, on par with his fellow teenage fighters, including Robby.

He developed a liking towards Sam in Season 6, but their relationship could not go further because she was already dating Miguel, which resulted in Axel getting jealous of Miguel.

In an interview with Cobra Kai Nation, Luwis remembers how he almost did not audition for the show because he did not have an accent:

"I saw that it was a role that required an accent, and ... I was like, 'they're probably just going to cast somebody who has an accent already."

He added:

"So all these things felt like it was an uphill battle already ... I thought, 'I'm going to look like an idiot to this casting office.' I was talking myself out of it."

Then, as he recalled, everything worked out for the best:

"I had to wait an entire weekend to find out the next week if I got it or not, so that was, man, I didn't sleep a wink. I was just like 'ah' the whole time, I was just like 'please, please go through' and it worked out."
