Friends, an iconic sitcom, has a plethora of interesting characters, one of them being Dr. Leonard Green. Dr. Leonard Green is Rachel Green's father and is played by late actor Ron Leibman.

He was portrayed as a wealthy, straightforward, and somewhat intimidating cardiologist, who always maintained a stern demeanor toward his son-in-law Ross. Ron Leibman played the grumpy, posh and bluntly honest character with great nuance and his tough-loving portrayal added a comedic element to the show.

Leonard Green made his first appearance in "The One with the Two Parties," Season 2, Episode 22 of Friends and appeared in several other episodes throughout the series. Leonard's character mostly focuses on the parent-child relationship.

Despite being tough from the outside, we often witness that Leonard cares about Rachel deeply. He wishes well for his daughter although, he often finds it hard to let her know.

There have been many memorable moments involving Dr. Green, of which, one stands out. In the episode "The One with the Two Parties", (season 2, episode 22) Rachel's friend, Monica, organises two different birthday parties so that her estranged parents don't see each other. One of these parties was affected by Leonard’s presence leading to tension, but it also highlighted Rachel's ability to map through complex family dynamics with a little help from her Friends.

One of the most memorable storylines involving Dr. Green was his disapproval of Ross as a potential son-in-law. Ross, being a paleontologist, was clearly not the type Dr. Green had envisioned for his daughter. He saw Ross as a man who would never be able to provide well for Rachel and give her what she deserved. This led to some epic confrontations between the two men, with Ross often coming out on top with his dry wit and unexpected intelligence.

In a later episode(S10E13), "The One Where Joey Speaks French," Dr. Green has been shown in a hospital but this time as a patient and Rachel was by his side to be with him in these unfortunate times. This episode explains a lot about their relationship, showcasing the amount of concern she had for her father's recovery even though they had their differences.This episode also revealed that her dad’s marriage to Rachel's mother, Sandra, didn’t work out and they had parted ways.

All in all, Dr. Leonard Green's character highlight’s on the growth that Rachel has had throughout the series. While their time on the show has shown conflict and misunderstandings, it always showcases Rachel's journey from a pampered, privileged girl to a self-sufficient and focused woman throughout her time in Friends. Leonard's appearances, though limited, significantly impact Rachel's storyline and provide depth to her character development.
