DC fans encountered some new characters in the event episode of Creature Commandos, which is also its season finale. It looked like Task Force M in season 2 will consist of just three members, The Bride, Doctor Phosphorus, and Weasel.
However, that's not the case, as it is revealed that the team just recruited four new members, one of them being a returning one.
In the concluding minutes of "A Very Funny Monster", we learn that G.I. Robot is back with a new and stronger body. Apart from him, there are also King Shark, Khalis, and Nosferata, a vampire from DC Comics. Nosferata was first introduced in Creature Commandos in Season 1 Episode 4 titled "Chasing Squirrels".
While people are more aware of King Shark thanks to appearances in The Flash TV series and The Suicide Squad, they aren't that aware of Nosferata or Khalis for that matter.
Who is Nosferata from DC comics in Creature Commandos?
Per her name, Nosferata from DC is a vampire. While she receives a major focus in the finale, her first Creature Commandos appearance is in the fourth episode, “Chasing Squirrels”.
In that episode, Nosferata along with Congorilla, a Belle Reve inmate are bullying Nina Mazursky in the prison’s cafeteria. However, The Bride steps up to the initiating gorilla and kills him.
Now that The Bride is the leader of Task Force M, it needs to be seen whether Nosferata is still hostile towards the former in Creature Commandos Season 2. Nosferata from DC's inclusion to the team stems from James Gunn's affinity for the character.
Gunn also revealed that the original line-up for Task Force M/Creature Commandos almost had Nosferata.
Who is Nosferata from DC in the comics?
Nosferata from DC has very few appearances in the comics. Therefore, it is hard to say what we can expect from her DCU counterpart in Creature Commandos Season 2.
Nosferata was created by Karl Kesel and Tom Grummett. Her first appearance was in 1998, and she fought Superboy in her debut comic.
If Gunn chooses to go with the character's comic book origins, then the second season of Creature Commandos may reveal that Nosferata is not a “traditional” vampire.
In the comics, she is created by a secret genetic research facility run by the government named Project Moreau. The show may also have a reference to Nosferata’s obsession with ruling the island in which Project Moreau is located.
James Gunn on the Creature Commandos recruit
After the finale was released on Max, James Gunn sat down for an interview with Rotten Tomatoes. In that interview, Gunn confirmed that King Shark, Khalis, and Nosferata are all the new members of the Creature Commandos led by The Bride. He said this in the interview:
“Nosferata, King Shark, who we’ve met in Suicide Squad, so it’s basically that King Shark…new, improved G.I. Robot, he’s not dead after all. He’s a robot. Then Khalis. So we got a mummy happening. I’m pretty interested in how we do a mummy. I’ve never been a big mummy guy. I’m a werewolf guy if I’m being honest with you.”
Creature Commandos Season 1 concluded its seven-episode run on January 9, 2025. The second season does not have a release date yet, but that does not mean that these characters won't pop up in other DCU projects, including live-action ones.
