The Whoniverse continues to expand as another companion is set to join the Doctor in the upcoming Doctor Who Season 15. The fan-favorite drama currently features Ncuti Gatwa as the titular time-traveling alien who looks human and can regenerate if he ever gets injured or dies.

Doctor Who Season 15 is on its way, and so is actress Varada Sethu, who is the new companion alongside Gatwa. While her name might sound new to many, Sethu is a talented Indian-born actress who has previously also played a notable role in a sci-fi project.

Doctor Who first debuted in 2005 on BBC One and has since become one of the highly popular dramas. It centers around a doctor who travels through time and space in his iconic ship, TARDIS. The episodes are packed with light-hearted and emotional moments while ensuring a clever narrative.

Another intriguing part of the show is that the Doctor travels with human companions who help him during the journey. During the adventure, they face numerous challenges and even dangerous creatures like Daleks, Cybermen, Weeping Angels, and more.

Actress Varada Sethu is joining the cast of Doctor Who Season 15

Among the actresses who quickly gained popularity by playing various roles is Varada Sethu. She hails from Kerela, India, and moved to the UK to pursue her acting career. She followed her passion for acting and attended the Identity School of Acting in London, where she learned improvisation, voice work, and screen acting.

The Doctor Who actress' screen debut came in 2010 with the short film Impressions, in which she played the key role of Sameena, a Muslim teenager who tries to understand one of her schoolmates with racist views. This marked the beginning of Sethu's career; now she's among the acclaimed stars.

Following her casting for Season 15, Varada Sethu shared her excitement and gratitude. She stated:

"I feel like the luckiest person in the world. It is such an honor to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I’m so grateful to the whole Doctor Who family."

Sethu praised the show and its cast, including Ncuti Gatwa and Millie Gibson, for being incredibly welcoming. The actress also mentioned feeling at home during these fun adventures.

Interestingly, this isn't Sethu's first time working with showrunner Russell T Davies, as they have collaborated before during the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream for BBC. Davies expressed his excitement for Sethu being a part of the TARDIS in 2025.

Hard Sun: The actress took on the role of Detective Sergent DS Mishal Ali, a complex character in this 2018 apocalyptic series written by the Doctor Who writer Neil Cross.

Strike Back: While Sethu didn't play a lead character in this action-packed series, she appeared in almost seventeen episodes from 2019 to 2020.

Jurassic World Dominion: In this action sci-fi, Varada Sethu plays a character named Shira alongside some of the best actors from the industry, like Christ Patt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and more.
