Who is Monica Kidder in Zero Day? Character explored in depth

Zero Day premiered on Netflix on February 20, 2025. Led by Robert De Niro, the show follows a shocking international cyber attack and the aftermath of it. De Niro plays the role of ex-president Geroge Mullen, who has to be called in to deal with the whole situation.

While trying to figure out how the attacks happened on such a massive scale, what Mullen and his team could never think of was that the attacks had perhaps happened from inside the house. The authorities initially thought of the involvement of Russians in this whole thing but as it turned out, it was Monica Kidder (Gaby Hoffman), owner of Panoply, a global technological company, who orchestrated the attack.

Monica Kidder was behind the cyber attack on Zero Day

As mentioned previously, proving all the theories of Mullen and his team wrong, it was revealed that Panoply owner Monica Kidder was behind the massive cyber attack that had shaken the whole world. While several other government officials and other industrialists were also associated with the attack, the main mind was Monica.

Given the fact that the applications of Monica Kidder were widely popular, almost 80% of the phones had it. Because of a certain code that her apps had, they were able to hack through nationwide systems, which eventually successfully created the blackout.

Moreover, Kidder’s apps not only affected phones but also were able to affect other forms of technologies through wired and non-wired connectivity. This ensured the massiveness of the attack, which was the actual goal of these criminals.

What appeared shocking was that among the various other government officials and other influential people who were in Monica’s team, there was also Mullen’s own daughter Alexandra Mullen.

What motivated most of these people to agree to the Zero Day attack was their common motivation of bringing the country together. They felt that in recent times, there was a lot of division in the opinions of the people of the country and that kind of clash ultimately stopped progress. Thinking that such an attack would bring the people together again, these people went ahead with the attack.

However, it is needless to say that things didn't pan out as the attackers had imagined and it only caused more panic and a situation of extreme tension, which showed how manipulation and one flawed belief can put the whole world at risk.

Gaby Hoffman played the role of Monica Kidder in Zero Day

Gaby Hoffman, the American actor who played the role of Monica Kidder in Zero Day, had started out in Hollywood as a child actor. Her notable projects as a child actor included films like Field of Dreams, Sleepless in Seattle etc.

She also worked as a teenager in the industry with projects like Everyone Says I Love You, 200 Cigarettes, Volcano etc. She then took a break and came back again in 2007 and started to work on multiple projects, including independent ones.

Besides Zero Day, her other shows include Louie on FX, Girls on HBO, and Transparent on Amazon Prime.
