Ben Urich is a very important character in the Daredevil story, both in comics and live-action shows. The new show, Daredevil: Born Again, on Disney+ makes people wonder if we'll see more of him in some way.
In this show, there's a character named B. B. Urich, played by Genneya Walton, but we don't know if she's connected to the Ben Urich from Netflix's Daredevil, played by Vondie Curtis-Hall, who was sadly killed by Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio).
In the comics, Ben Urich was a journalist and a bit of a whistleblower. He was important because he figured out that Daredevil was none other than Matt Murdock.
Fans are looking forward to finding out how his story continues in the MCU.
Ben Urich : The journalist who knew too much
Ben Urich first appeared in Daredevil #153 in 1978. He was created by writer Roger McKenzie and artist Gene Colan. As a journalist for the Daily Bugle, Urich focused on uncovering the city's crimes and corruption.
His greatest discovery? That blind lawyer Matt Murdock was the masked hero Daredevil. Instead of publishing the story, Urich protected Murdock. He knew that Murdock's work as Daredevil was important for the greater good. His strong sense of right and wrong often put him in risky situations.
In the Daredevil: Born Again storyline by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli, Urich faced danger when he looked into police corruption connected to the Kingpin. The Kingpin's men tried to scare him into stopping his investigations.
Urich wasn't just a big part of Daredevil's world. He was important to Spider-Man too. He was the one who revealed that Norman Osborn was the Green Goblin. Because he never stopped looking for the truth, he became one of Marvel's most respected characters without any superpowers.
His dedication to his work made him a hero in his own right.
Ben Urich in Netflix’s Daredevil (2015) had a tragic death
Vondie Curtis-Hall played the role of Urich in Netflix's Daredevil, which came out in 2015. Urich was a journalist who was committed to finding the truth. In a surprising twist that was different from the comic books, Fisk killed Urich in the 12th episode of the first season.
This shocked fans because in the comics, Ben Urich lived through many dangerous situations and came out unscathed.
Ben Urich’s legacy may live on in Daredevil: Born Again
In the Netflix version of Daredevil: Born Again, Ben's character is absent, but a new journalist named BB Urich emerges. This suggests that his legacy might live on through someone else. If BB Urich carries on Ben's brave pursuit of truth, she could become a fresh adversary for Fisk when he re-enters politics.
Historically, the Urich family is known for uncovering Fisk's secrets. So, when a Urich starts investigating, it's rare for the Kingpin's hidden truths to stay concealed.
Daredevil: Born Again will be streaming on Disney+.
