Mel's father was finally revealed in the Virgin River Season 5 finale

After many back-and-forth and making fans wonder who Mel's biological father is in Virgin River, Mel finally has a solid clue that can reveal who her father is. During Season 5, Mel's sister, Joey, discovers a string of love letters between their mother and a mysterious man.

While they already knew that their mother had a fling with a man from their town, it made sense to get his address from the post office and stop by to say hi to their newly discovered dad, and Mel did exactly that.

In the special holiday-themed episodes in Season 5, Mel goes to the post office with Jack to get her father's address, which is revealed to someone named Everett Reid, and voila! He happened to be living within driving distance from her house, and Mel decided to pay him a visit.

She is coldly greeted by Everett, who denies knowing who she is. Even after she catches him on his lie, she leaves. But the next morning, Everett visits her house and comes clean that he is, in fact, Mel's biological father, and he was taken aback when she suddenly dropped by, which made him lie.

Is Mel's relationship with her father explored in Virgin River Season 6?

Virgin River Season 6 opens with a flashback where Mel reminisces what happened after Everett visited her in the Season 5 finale. He revealed that he lied and tried to stay away from her all these years because he had done bad things in the past, and his mentor, Vernon, would not approve of him.

This brings up an important story from Season 1, relating to Jordan's death, which made Vernon hysteric and he cheated on his wife, Hope. Vernon blames Everett for the child's death as he was tending to a drunk Everett and could not be there to save Jordan in time.

However, the two are able to get past this tragic event after Everett confesses that he was drunk that night because he did not wish to live after Sarah's death. Vernon realizes that saving Everett was not worthwhile because he also needed him and he was not in the right mental condition.

This reconciliation between Mel's father and mentor finally comes as a respite in the Season 6 finale as we see Everett walking Mel down the aisle on her wedding day. He also performs a song he wrote for Sarah at Mel and Jack's wedding.
