NBC's long-standing procedural Law & Order is back with season 24, and guess what? The team won't see one of their key officers, Lieutenant Kate Dixon (played by Camryn Manheim).
Following Lt. Dixon's departure, the show has welcomed her replacement Lieutenant Jessica Brady, portrayed by American Rust star Maura Tierney.
Maura Tierney's Lt. Brady is the newcomer in Law & Order Season 24 and prefers a no-nonsense approach to her work. As seen in the show's premiere, Detectives Jalen Shaw and Vincent Riley were investigating a crime scene, and Lt. Brady showed up without a notice or being introduced earlier.
After she arrived at the crime scenes, the two detectives thought Lt. Brady had been mistaken and asked her to excuse them. Since it wasn't a mistake, Lt. Brady said:
"I’m your new lieutenant. Jessica Brady. Nice to meet you."
This shows how direct Lt. Brady is, but this approach might not sit well with the two detectives who were good friends with Lt. Dixon. Lt. Brady's arrival was a mild shock to Detectives Shaw and Riley as they didn't know Dixon had left the team, and they'll be getting a new boss.

Now that Lieutenant Jessica Brady is in, the detectives have no choice but to follow her while missing their former co-worker. The premiere of Law & Order Season 24 began with a surprise to the two detectives and introduced Maura Tierney to fans and viewers.
Being a confident and straightforward officer, Lt. Jessica Brady expects her teammates to follow her without any confusion. However, this might sometimes rub people the wrong way, especially when they had been working under former Lt. Dixon, a completely different personality than Brady.
While talking about her new role in Law & Order Season 24 with TV Insider, Maura Tierney described Lt. Jessica Brady as a "very demanding boss" who believes she's always making the right decision. In an interview with TV Insider, the NewsRadio star added:
"Nobody likes her at the moment. [Laughs]... I don’t think it’s Brady’s fault necessarily; she wasn’t expected... She’s not mean, she is just very good at her job. Hopefully, we’ll address that and those relationships will change."
Tierney explained Lt. Brady was greeted with "mistrust" as her teammates weren't informed about Dixon's replacement. The new officer is quite strict when it comes to interrogating, has a nearly photographic memory, and finds it easy to examine a person through their body language.
So, Jessica Brady has every skill required to be a key officer in NBC's Law & Order, and with time fans will get to see more of her personality and relations with the team. While the lieutenant seems to have a perfectly balanced professional life, Brady's got "a few issues" when it comes to her personal life.
What roles have Maura Tierney played on television before joining Law & Order?
Maura Tierney might be a newcomer in Law & Order, but she's one of the popular small-screen actors, best known for playing Abby Lockhart in the famous medical drama ER, which she joined in 1999, and stayed for almost a decade.
Apart from procedurals, she has also been a part of the sitcom NewsRadio, in which she portrayed Lisa Miller. While ER and NewsRadio earned Maura Tierney critical acclaim, the actress has played several other roles in the entertainment industry.
And now, the 59-year-old has joined the iconic NBC police procedural, focusing on the justice system in New York City. Law & Order has been following two parts of an episode, in which the first features the crime, and the second part takes the case to the courtroom.
