The stars really seem to be aligning for Jason Momoa, as after expressing his vocal interest in playing the character of Lobo from DCU, his wish has been granted. It was confirmed on Monday that Jason Momoa will be appearing in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow as Lobo.

Often defined as an intergalactic anti-hero and a conflicting character, Lobo is the last of the descendants of the planet of Czarnia. He possesses superhuman strength in addition to remarkable regenerative abilities.

The fifty-five-year-old Hawaiian actor has in the past spoken up about his avid interest in the character and its journey. In a previous Instagram post where Momoa quoted a section from his interview with Fandango a year ago, it was mentioned:

"I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,” he said in the interview. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a fuck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

Jason Momoa reposted the above-mentioned section with the update "They Called" suggesting the fact that DC co-chairman James Gunn and Peter Safran are currently in talks with the Aquaman star for the upcoming first film in the DCU. Here's everything we know.

Who is Lobo? DCU Character Details explored

The character of Lobo was created by Keith Giffen and Roger Slifer. The earliest appearance of Lobo can be traced back to a 1983 issue of Omega Men #3. The name of the character is translated as 'Wolf' from Spanish.

Throughout his comic book appearances, Lobo is identified as the last descendant from the utopian planet of Czarnia. He works as an intergalactic bounty hunter and has a particular penchant for causing destruction and mayhem. Apart from his exceptional strength, he also has the ability to regenerate. This makes him a formidable opponent and a worthy antagonist.

Jason Momoa has mentioned that he has always been a huge fan of the character. Therefore the choice of casting Jason Momoa might just be a home run for the new and renovated DCU as we look forward to the release of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

What's the latest buzz around Jason Momoa's casting as Lobo from DCU?

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is all slated to be the second film in the new DCU as envisioned by co-chairman James Gunn. This would be preceded by the highly anticipated Superman starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.

It is a well-known fact that Jason Momoa had previously aced the character of Aquaman, raking in positive reviews from all across the aisle. However, with the recent reshuffling of the Justice League cast, it became apparent that Jason Momoa might be replaced by someone else to play Aquaman.

Therefore the decision to cast Momoa as Lobo has become sort of a win-win situation for everyone, including Momoa himself especially since he has dreamed of playing the character for quite a while. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be hitting the theatres on June 26, 2026.
