Wizards Beyond Waverly Place harkens back to the classic Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place and builds on the nostalgia. Wizards Beyond Waverly Place recently debuted as a sequel and reboot of the previous show. It built upon the entertaining world of fun, magic, and adventure that was so dear to viewers in the early 2000s.

The new show uses numerous references and shoutouts to the original, with many of the old characters reprising their roles and including the addition of a few new characters.

Among the other new additions to the ensemble cast of Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, the character of Giada Russo, the wife of Justin Russo, is quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Who is Giada Russo from Wizards Beyond Waverly Place?

According to Wizards of Waverly Place Wiki, Giada Russo is in her thirties and is a professional journalist working as an investigative reporter for Wizards of Waverly Place News. She is a non-magical character and is the mother to her and Justin's children, Roman Russo and Milo. She is also Jerry Russo's daughter-in-law. Giada Russo is portrayed by actress Mimi Gianopolus.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place builds upon the legacy of Wizards of Waverly Place by situating the drama of the new season in the same atmosphere as the old season. For this reason, the new series commences a few years after the old season ended. Interestingly, the final season of Wizards of Waverly Place aired in 2012 when all the siblings, including Justin, Alex, and Max, were teenagers.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, however, commences from where the siblings have grown up to become adults. In this case, Justin has grown up from a meticulous and ambitious teen wizard to a responsible and caring father committed to his family's well-being. Giada is his wife, and the two complement each other well to the tune of keeping their family happy.

Currently, the show does not offer a detailed backstory for Giada. We can surmise that Giada met Russo sometime after the Family Wizard Competition, and the two fell in love. Justin eventually decided to sacrifice and give up his magical powers to marry Giada since the rule dictated that wizards can't marry non-magical individuals, with the latter being non-magical herself. Eventually, they had two children, Roman and Milo.

As mentioned earlier, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place made nostalgic references and callbacks to the fond memories of the classic old show. Justin's character now reflects his father, Jerry Russo, from the original show, while his son, Roman, brings to mind Justin's own antics from the past.

Giada Russo brings back old memories

There are several parallels between the characters of Giada Russo and Jerry Russo's wife, Theresa, from Wizards of Waverly Place. Both of them consisted of the non-magical aspect of their husband's lives and proved to be an important anchor in the non-magical world, which often shielded her children from harm when things went south.

This was further emphasized by the fact that, like Theresa, Giada quickly adjusted to the magic in her children's lives and was able to provide them with the necessary care.
