After delivering one of the most heartfelt performances on the American Idol stage, singer John Foster has secured himself a spot in the Top 14 on the April 21 episode.

John is 18 years old right now and specializes in the country music genre. He is commonly seen performing with a cream colored cowboy hat and a guitar in one hand.

The judges appreciated his performance during the Hollywood week and the song he wrote for his friend Maggie Dunne at the time of her death three years ago.

Proving himself as a worthy contestant on American Idol, John has performed songs that are his originals as well as some of the classic covers. After the Easter special episode, John automatically moved to a spot on the Top 14. This was decided by viewer votes.

John Foster hails from Addis in Louisiana and proudly represents his heritage and roots during his time on American Idol. Previously, viewers have seen how he brought Cajun food for the judges, which is a subset of Louisiana cooking.

John Foster on American Idol - Personal Life explored

The Addis singer John Foster on American Idol has graduated from Brusly High School. He was best friends with Maggie Dunn, whom he met when he was a little kid. However, her tragic accident was a blow to him.

At the time, in order to deal with the tragedy, he had written a song called "Tell That Angel I Love Her." John performed this song during the Easter Special episode of American Idol and got emotional afterwards.

His friend Maggie, who was in a car with Caroline Gill, was killed when a police officer hit them with his vehicle. Her brother was also in the car and survived, but endured serious injuries. The police officer was trying to chase a suspect who had stolen a car and run a red light.

Maggie and John have been close friends since they were kids. Her mother, who is always in the audience supporting him, talked on the Unfiltered with Kiran podcast and revealed,

"He carries around a letter that she wrote for him. It was an assignment for a junior English class, and in it, she talks about how he has to keep pushing with this [dream] because he has talent"

John Foster graduated as a valedictorian from his class, and his website describes his genre of music as neo-traditional. It also says,

"John has deep passions other than country music; in 2024, John Foster graduated as Valedictorian of his class at Brusly High School. He is a devout Catholic Christian and incorporates his faith into all aspects of his life, including his music.

It adds,

His connection to music was solidified when he experienced the loss of two friends, Maggie Dunn and Caroline Gill, in December of 2022; he channeled his grief into a song titled "Tell That Angel I Love Her" which brought much-needed comfort to him and all members of his community."

American Idol season 23 episodes can be watched weekly on Sundays and Mondays at 8:00 pm Eastern Time on ABC. Later, the episodes are available to stream via Hulu.
