Peter Löwenbräu Griffin Sr. is a fictional character and the main character of the American animated sitcom Family Guy. Seth MacFarlane, the creator of the series, voices him. He and the other members of the Griffin family made their television debut on January 31, 1999, in the episode "Death Has a Shadow."
MacFarlane himself created Peter. Based on his short, Larry & Steve, which had a middle-aged man named Larry and an intelligent dog named Steve, MacFarlane was asked to submit a pilot to the Fox Broadcasting Company. Larry was renamed Peter for the series.
Peter is the father of Meg, Chris, and Stewie, and is wed to Lois. He also has a dog named Brian, who is his best friend. He's worked at Quahog's Brewery and a toy company. The security guards MacFarlane heard at his school served as the inspiration for Peter's voice.
Peter Griffin in Family Guy
A bespectacled, obese blue-collar worker in his mid-forties, Peter Griffin is an Irish American middle-class man with a strong Rhode Island and Eastern Massachusetts accent. Although Peter's age has been described as being in his early to mid-40s throughout the series, it has never been formally confirmed.
Peter and his spouse, Lois, have three children: Meg, Chris, and Stewie. Additionally, he had two deceased children: Dave, Stewie's twin, who is thought to have been killed by Stewie during childbirth, and Peter Jr., who was shaken to death. He was brought up by Thelma and his stepfather, Francis Griffin, and is the illegitimate son of Thelma Griffin and Mickey McFinnigan.
Although it is not known if Peter's biological parents were married before he was born, in the episode "Peter's Two Dads," Peter has a flashback in which Francis tells him directly, "I'm not your father!" Peter finds out that Francis is not his biological father, suggesting that he is aware that Peter is not his son.
Situated in Providence, Rhode Island, Peter and his family reside in the fictitious town of Quahog, Rhode Island. Before his boss, Jonathan Weed, choked to death on a dinner roll while dining with Peter and Lois, Peter was a safety inspector at the Happy-Go-Lucky Toy Factory. He later became a fisherman on his own boat, the "S.S. More Powerful than Superman, Batman, Spider-Man, and The Incredible Hulk Put Together," with the help of two Portuguese immigrants, Santos and Pasqual, until his boat was destroyed.
He is currently employed at the Pawtucket Patriot Brewery in the shipping department. Additionally, Peter appears in cutaway jokes and single episodes in a variety of jobs. In one case, Peter was a member of the NFL's New England Patriots until his actions led to his dismissal from the squad. Storylines are occasionally broken by incredibly lengthy, unexpected fights between Peter and Ernie the Giant Chicken, a humanoid chicken who acts as Peter's archenemy, in running wit. With their explosions, fast-paced chases, and massive destruction of the town of Quahog, these confrontations spoof the genre of action movies.
Creation of Peter Griffin
When MacFarlane was a student of animation at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in 1995, he first had the idea for Family Guy. His thesis video, The Life of Larry, was produced while he was a college student and submitted to Hanna-Barbera by his RISD professor. The corporation hired MacFarlane. A middle-aged guy named Larry and an intelligent dog named Steve were the subjects of MacFarlane's 1996 follow-up to The Life of Larry, Larry & Steve, a short that was aired as one of Cartoon Network's World Premiere Toons in 1997.
After viewing the Larry shorts, Fox executives hired MacFarlane to develop a television show called Family Guy based on the characters. Fox offered MacFarlane a $50,000 budget and suggested that he make a 15-minute short. The Larry shorts served as the inspiration for several elements of Family Guy. The characters of Larry and his dog Steve gradually changed into Peter and Brian as the story progressed. According to MacFarlane, "Life of Larry was shown primarily in my dorm room and Family Guy was shown after the Super Bowl." This is how The Life of Larry differed from Family Guy.
