Eugene's first significant appearance was when Nicole visited him at a nursing home at Red Pine Village in episode 5. Nicole found out about Eugene when she discovered his photo in Janet's high school yearbook.

Eugene reveals that he was a close friend of Janet during high school in the 1950s. When Nicole asks him about the fire that killed Janet and Mr. Martin, the scene takes the viewers to a flashback where we see them as lab partners and a part of the science club.

Eugene provides pieces of the puzzle that show the tight bond between him and Janet and his comments about their chemistry teacher Mr. Martin. Despite the passage of decades, Eugene's memory remains sharp, and it is clear that he holds deep feelings for his long-lost friend, Janet.

However, he reveals an important detail about the fire that killed Janet and Mr. Martin. He said that Janet and Mr. Martin could not have caused the fire accidentally because they were quite careful.

However, he also reveals that even if it was not a mistake, Mr. Martin could purposely start the fire due to his rage at being fired. He reveals that there is more to the mystery of the fire than anybody could think.

This suggests that a third character might have been involved in causing the fire that killed Janet.

Could Eugene be hiding something about the fire?

Eugene's sudden appearance in School Spirits Season 2 adds complexity to the already thrilling mystery. Eugene's comments hinted at the involvement of a third person in the fire contrary to what Janet's parents and the surviving students believed.

Eugene's revelation pointed out that there was more than just Mr. Martin's involvement. The villainous teacher was the prime suspect as he was angry at Janet and other students and upset about getting suspended.

The potential third character could be someone from Janet's past, someone whose motivations are not revealed. Eugene's comments about Janet's scientific achievements point out the possibility that someone might have tried to steal her work.

When Maddie takes Mr. Martin's watch and uses it as the key to open Janet's locker, she finds Janet's belongings and plans where she wants to become a scientist. It was during this time that presumably Janet's ghost appeared from Maddie's behind and stated, 'I was wronged.' The creators might work on a culprit reveal in the finale episode that could make Janet and Mr. Martin victims.
