Andrew DeLuca, portrayed by Giacomo Gianniotti, is a fictional character in the American medical drama series Grey’s Anatomy. He left the show as a main character in season 17 of the show.

At the conclusion of Season 11, Andrew was introduced as a brand-new surgical intern at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. In Season 13, he was promoted to resident. His story frequently centered on his battles to survive the demands of a cutthroat industry, blend in with his peers, and manage interpersonal interactions with his coworkers.

Grey's Anatomy is an American medical drama that centers on the personal and professional lives of attendings, residents, and surgical interns at the fictional Seattle Grace Hospital, which was subsequently renamed the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital. The pilot was written by Shonda Rhimes, who also served as executive producer, head writer, and showrunner until her departure in 2015. The show centers on Dr. Meredith Grey (Pompeo) for most of its run, following her journey from surgical intern to fully certified physician to the chief of general surgery at the hospital.

Andrew DeLuca’s background in Grey’s Anatomy

Andrea "Andrew" DeLuca and his mother relocated from Italy to Wisconsin when he was a little boy, while his sister Carina (Stefania Spampinato) remained with their father, Vincenzo DeLuca (Lorenzo Caccialanza). Vincenzo was a well-known Italian surgeon who was also dishonest and mentally ill.

Andrew's mother left with Vincenzo after he exploited his wealth and connections to evade prosecution after operating in a manic state and killing four patients. Eventually, when Andrew's mother went back to Italy to see Carina, she passed away from a stroke.

The DeLucas speak English and Italian fluently. Because of their different upbringings, Andrew speaks Italian with an American accent, while Carina speaks English with an Italian accent. Andrew worked as an EMT immediately after high school before deciding to pursue a career in medicine. He had an unstable relationship with his future coworker Sam Bello (Jeanine Mason) at one point, but it couldn't be resolved when Sam moved away.
