Season 3, Episode 4 of What If...? dropped on December 25, 2024, explores the story around Darcy and Howard forming a romantic connection who first met in Season 1 episode 7 at Thor's party. In the recent episode, they are shown delivering a child that is a hybrid of a human and a duck. Darcy lays an egg in the delivery room and this begins the new parenthood of the Marvel Mallard and his bride Darcy Lewis from the Thor films and WandaVision.The child they deliver is far from extraordinary. The egg eventually hatches to reveal Byrdie a hybrid of a human and anthropomorphic duck imbued with extraordinary cosmic powers in What If...?

What happens with the egg before it finally hatches in What If...?

Every major player on the planet wants to control the egg for themselves. Byrdie was born during the convergence of Nine realms which is a celestial event first introduced in Thor: The Dark World. This convergence merges enemies from various realms making it a heightened cosmic potential.

Howard and Darcy decide to take the cruise across the stars when they are offered free tickets from Sakaar's Grandmaster, but he has an additional agenda behind this. The Grandmaster plots to steal the egg from "the duck" family and serve it up as the main course during the family dinner. But before it was eaten Yondu Udonta and Ravagers took it away. One thing led to another leading to a chase sequence involving SHIELD, the Dark Elves, the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, and even Thanos.

Eventually, Darcy and Howard reclaim the egg amidst the chase and decide to seek shelter in Jotunheim where Loki welcomes them warmly. But, the refuge seemed futile as all the players started to head to Jotunheim. By the end of the episode, the unhatched egg begins to glow and emit light, and an unexpectedly cute girl with feathers protruding from her forearms is born. Darcy takes her back home safely.

In the upcoming episodes of What If...?, Marvel has confirmed that Byrdie will come back as an adult. As seen in the trailer that portrays Byrdie flying through the sky with huge beautiful wings. The character will be voiced by Natasha Lyonne. Therefore Byrdie joins a unique club of superheroes and characters that originated in MCU.
