Harrison Ford plays the lead as Jacob Dutton in 1923, a much-talked-about prequel to Yellowstone, by Taylor Sheridan. Jacob is the rock of the Dutton family, always ready to stand firm and protect their sprawling ranch in Montana from whatever trouble comes their way, from outside dangers or the harshness of nature itself.
Paramount+ dropped a trailer for 1923 Season 2 on January 19, 2025, hinting at what's heading fans' way. The season is showing a brutal winter in Montana to set the stage for more challenges for our hero. And there'll be showdowns with foes like Donald Whitfield, played by Timothy Dalton.
This season isn't just about holding onto the ranch, though. Jacob has a personal quest too. He's on a mission to bring Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar, back home to the safety of the family's land. This season is going to be the grand finale for 1923. It's set to kick off on February 23, 2025.
In the trailer, Cara Dutton, played by Helen Mirren, makes a heartfelt plea:
“Bring him home. Promise.”
The suspense is palpable as Jacob finds himself dealing with dangers lurking not only on the ranch but also from outside forces like Whitfield scheming to grab the Dutton family's land. Jacob is the heart of the show, representing the tough choices and sheer grit needed to safeguard what his family holds dear.
Jacob Dutton struggles to survive on 1923
Jacob Dutton, played by Harrison Ford, captures the tough and resilient character of the American frontier. As the leader of the Dutton family, Jacob deals with all kinds of hardships, especially in 1923 Season 2 where he's up against Donald Whitfield, a nasty villain who wants their land.
The preview shows us a Montana covered in snow, which tells us that this season is going to be all about making it through tough winters. This winter isn't just going to test how strong the Duttons are physically but put their bonds to the test.
In the trailer, Cara talks about the challenges they're about to face:
“Anything worth having is worth fighting for.”
This brings home the importance of their fight.
Jacob's story takes a big twist when he leaves the ranch to bring Spencer back. The new 1923 trailer gives us a peek at some of the risky things he'll face, like getting on a train, which makes you think his trip won't be easy.
With Jacob gone, Cara is left to protect the ranch all by herself, which cranks up the pressure on her. What Jacob does shows just how much he cares about his family and the sacrifices he's ready to make, even if it means facing danger.
Season 2 is to bring higher stakes and a lot more feelings
This upcoming season of 1923 takes us further into the lives of several important characters. Spencer's rugged trip to Montana and his wife Alex's (played by Julia Schlaepfer) heartfelt search to find him again brings gravitas.
On the flip side, Donald Whitfield's harsh plan suggests things are about to get intense in his fight to grab the Dutton family's land.
He wants to:
"Build an army."
There's also another part of the story that looks at Elizabeth Dutton's (Michelle Randolph) emotional journey after she sadly loses her baby in a scene from the last episode of the first season of 1923.
This hits her hard, but it also affects her husband Jack. 1923's story gets even more interesting because of all the emotions flying around.
Taylor Sheridan and some other experienced folks in the TV world are in charge of this show, and they've done a fantastic job with the story and the people in it. They've got some big-name actors, like Helen Mirren playing the strong-willed Cara Dutton who's the glue holding the family together when things get rough.
If you haven't watched 1923 Season 1 yet, you can catch it on Paramount+.
